Martha Stewart, bless her heart, has finally made me take out my wallet. She and her people have put out a Reader's Digest-sized magazine with homey food, well-photographed. Do you ever feel like you completely forgot what you like to eat? No idea what kids might eat that won't pre-embalm you with preservatives? I think you should look. Each issue comes with "Sunday dinner", a section which shows how to make a large dinner, then gives do-able ideas for what to do with the leftover turkey, ham, potatoes for several days after. An "In Season" column shows what to do with the produce coming out your ears at the time -- strawberries in spring, tomatoes in summer. Beautiful diagrams on how to whack a broccoli so it looks chic, how to make an upside down cake that doesn't slop onto the plate. Even some nice boozy, fruity concoctions with ingredients you probably already have. I'm also a N. Lawson fan, and feel this magazine approaches her pleasing-effect-for-minimal-effort energy, if not formula. I highly recommend this.
