BIG BIG PROBLEMS!!! November 10, 2003 5 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have subscribed to this magazine for years and was reasonably happy with the content. It has always been full of advertising, but it has been getting progressively worse. Now the content seems overshadowed by gross amounts of advertising. However, my biggest problem with this magazine is that I didn't receive the holiday issues (Nov. and Dec.) in 2002. Once again, I'm having problems in 2003. It's hard to call customer service three times and still not have the problem corrected. Last year they said "sorry" and agreed to extend my subscription to make up for the mistake. Unfortunately, no holiday issues - it started with January all over again. This year, the same thing is happening - no November issue. And when I called them on this they said they would replace the issue in 2-3 weeks. What kind of customer service is that? How come I never have problems with any other magazine? Bon Appetit comes on schedule - the month before. I would choose another type of magazine. Too much competition out there for customers, and there is much better service to be found. If I ever get the 2003 holiday issues that I've paid for, it will be goodbye to Martha Stewart Living. Otherwise, I think I'll jump through the phone lines to choke someone. Martha may have more problems than she thinks she has. Personally, I recommend Bon Appetit and Cooking Light.
EXCELLENT GIFT ITEM!! September 9, 2003 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I subscribed to "Martha Stewart Living" last year for my mom for her birthday. She has always been an avid Martha fan. She absolutely loved the magazine and hinted that she would like it again this year for her birthday. She shares it with my aunts, and they gather on Saturdays and bake and make things described in the magazine. They all truly love the magazine. I am a Martha fan as well. All my bathroom decor, linens, etc. are Martha Stewart brand. If you have a mother, wife, etc. who enjoys Martha's television program, I highly suggest you subsribe to the magazine as a gift for them. They will truly love it!
The Best!!! August 14, 2003 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Simply put, I want my life to be a Martha Stewart Living Magazine. Sure, a lot of the stuff is not practical for me or most to do, and I cannot spend hours carving a pumpkin or making linen accents to my cornices and the like. Actually, the cooking part is pretty practical, I am a good cook and I like her recipes. I love her Food Magazine spin-off. I have had luck with some of the gardening advice and once they did this thing on how to strip paint from a concrete floor, it really helped me with a small project. She also taught me how to boil eggs properly without cracking them, something I can't believe I never picked up on my own. Anyway, I am not reading Martha Stewart Living with the thought of actually being able to do all of these things or live like Martha Stewart herself, or how you think she might live based on the magazine. It is something pretty and nice to look at and read through, puts me in a nice mood, gives me a few tips I can actually follow, and gives me something to aspire to.

I have been a long time subscriber to MSL. It isn't very practical for me, but I find the features interesting and inspirational. I'm sure Holly Homemaker or hard core Martha fans have (or make) the time to really do the projects and make the recipes. I like reading it for pure entertainment. There are many things to learn since the magazine has monthly gardening, entertainment, cooking and decorating features. It also gives you a different perspective on the same old stuff. For example, a feature on yarn will give you descriptions on the many different types of yarn, how to pick the right type for your project, different knitting stitches, etc.
Will Not Renew... January 1, 2003 7 out of 19 found this review helpful
I have always enjoyed Martha's ideas, but this magazine is hard to read - it reads very slow. If you enjoy reading 5 full pages about the green pea or the like, then this is the magazine for you. You will find some things that you will think of making (if you have the time), but the impractical things take up most of the magazine. I was disappointed.
