3 out of 5 stars Good, but not THAT good   April 9, 2004

Martha Stewart Living is a good magazine, but definetely not worth the price you pay. There is an overabudance of advertisements which would lead one to believe that the price should be somewhat lower. In comparison to other magazines of the same content, it looks like they are trying to make a profit from both advertisers and subscribers. However, it does have a lot of good information!

5 out of 5 stars good reference material   March 18, 2004

As an aspiring graphic designer (currently still in art school), I use Martha Stewart Living as a main reference almost on a daily basis. It is probably the best designed, non-art magazine I've ever seen with outstanding photography that is flawless and utterly consistent (in a good way). Kudos to the staff of Martha Stewart Living and even more kudos to Martha! If you can get college kids to enjoy a housekeeping magazine, you're doing something right.

4 out of 5 stars A GOOD ONE FOR THE MONEY   March 12, 2004

This is one of those extra thick magazines where you can find great reading, and use as a weapon against an intruder in your home!!! One wallop with one of these babies rolled up, and you're more than likely going to do some damage. OK, as for the contents, it's hard to beat this magazine. Great recipes, outstanding crafts and ideas for special occasions. To say Martha is good at coming up with inventive ideas is putting it lightly. She borders on sheer genious (did I spell that right?). And the photography isn't something to bark at either, especially the ones of the different deserts and other dishes she comes up with. They can literally make your mouth water! Like any magazine, there's the tons of ads, but not to the point to where there's a small percent of reading, and the rest, ads. I love her Halloween and Christmas editions the most. They are filled with great ideas that I (and others in my family) have used. Anyone, single or family, can benefit greatly from this superb magazine.

3 out of 5 stars not as good as it used to be   February 28, 2004

I have been a fan of MSL for 7 years now, and although I will keep buying it along with MS Kids, I do fing they have started to print articles that have been on the magazines on previous years or issues, and it is so annoying. Why would you want to read about the same topic or craft TWICE??? I also agree on the ads, they are SOOO annoying and it bugs me that they are always on the left hand page. If it goes on like this, I will probably have to start browsing through the magazine before buying it, instead of grabbing it and heading straight to the cashier.

5 out of 5 stars A Favorite in Europe!   November 30, 2003

"Martha Steward Living" is the only American home magazine my wife really enjoys reading. We live in Europe, but are able to buy some American magazines from a shop near my office. The other home journals that I've bought in the past were quickly discarded. However, "Living" turned out to be a big hit and the only American journal equal to the stylish Italian and French magazines she reads. I think she likes "Living" so much because the writers seem to combine the best of American and European food, interior design, and crafts. Being on the receiving end, I can tell you that I've really enjoyed eating some of the recipes in "Living", like the chocolate pumpkin pie in the November issue. My wife isn't really a crafts person, but she's had a lot of fun with some of the projects that have appeared in the journal (with patterns available on the Martha Steward web site). Now I'm no judge of home journals myself, but I do know that this is the only magazine that she now always asks me to check for at the shop. You'll probably like it too if you want a magazine that's a bit more eclectic and upscale.
