You get what you pay for November 1, 2008 Cheap construction, wine bottles don't fit well, louder than expected. This is not a very good product but I suppose you get what you pay for. If I had kept the box I would have sent it back. I did look at other brands in this price range and found the same problems. If you enjoy wine enough to buy a refrigerator for your bottles, don't be a cheapskate like me--get something nice.
Digital display of temp and the light stopped working October 25, 2008 The refrigerator worked well the first few days. But about day three I noticed that the digital display that shows the temperature was not working. Also, when I opened the door, the light did not come on as it did previously. Very disappointing - but, the wine bottles were still cold. When I contacted Wine Enthusiast by email, they responded with a phone call. Priscilla was professional, stating that I could ship back and they would provide the overnight label and help arrange pickup. The problem was, I had already discarded the box and Priscilla said I need to pack the refrigerator first. Of course I had already disposed of the original box and packing material (a lot of styrofoam (spelling?). So, this part of the customer service was not helpful, nor would they send me a box with adequate packing material.
User friendly and quiet September 15, 2008 I find the cellar to be silent, as advertised, and it required virtually no set-up. The racks will only fit 18 750 ml or so bottles, so if you have slightly larger sizes, you won't be able to use all of the space (in other words, you will fit fewer bottles). Also, the first one I received was dead (it didn't draw any electricity), but Wine Enthusiast replaced it within a week or so with a working one. I've only had it about a week and a half, but I am quite happy with the unit and the service thus far; it's easy to use, and I ultimately received what I expected. I would recommend it for a relatively small space.
So far so good! August 27, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We purchased this wine fridge in June of 2008. So far it's lived up to its billing. It looks nice, build quality is reasonable, and it holds the temperature just fine. It seems to have two modes of operation. After opening the door to add or remove a bottle, the fan runs loudly enough that I wouldn't call it "silent". It's not "noisy", but you do know that it's running. However, once it reaches the set temp, it quiets down to the point that I'd call it "nearly silent". I don't know if it has a variable-speed fan or it just turns the fan off for periods of time, but in any event, we have this unit located under a table in our dining room and normally don't even notice that its there. A number of other reviews indicate problems with noise; I'm guessing that either there are build quality issues and we just happened to get a good one, or folks aren't leaving enough space around the unit, causing it to run the fan continuously.
One very minor complaint is that larger bottles don't necessarily fit well, or at all, and the shelves are not adjustable. If that's a concern, be prepared to remove a shelf (which reduces capacity) or buy a larger unit. This isn't a big deal for us and we were more interested in the compact size given where we wanted to put the unit.
For now I give it 5 stars. I'll update this review later to confirm longevity and that it stays quiet & keeps the set temp.
