Finally, the perfect lunch box! October 17, 2008 I don't have a good track record on taking lunch to work. I'm not really all that interested in food at 5 or 6 a.m. when I have to pack it, I like having a variety of food for lunch and get bored by sandwiches, and don't like losing precious lunch time waiting for food to reheat in the microwave (let alone standing in line to use it). When I stumbled upon information about bento boxes, I was intrigued. After researching, I decided to try the Zojirushi Mr. Bento.
I love it! Four containers give me the variety I want (you don't have to fill them to the lid, nor to use all of them, thanks to the cleaver design); everything is still hot when I can eat (as a nurse, that's unpredictable); and I can fill the containers the evening before, then warm them up in the morning while I'm making my tea, pop them in the pre-warmed Mr. Bento, and I'm good to go. Whenever I can squeeze in lunch, I can actually start eating right away. If I don't have time for more than a nibble and really need to eat something right away, it can be something nutritious and tasty from home. I've used it almost every work day since I got it, and really wished I had on the other days. It's easy to carry, and is a size and shape that's easy to stow away in a cabinet in our breakroom.
My only gripe? I wish it came with the chopstick holder too. The spork is okay, but when I bring oriental food, I'd rather eat it with [clean] chopsticks, and prefer not to use disposables.
10/30/08. Unfortunately, the lid for the rice bowl suddenly came apart into three pieces one day when I unpacked my lunch. After some thought, I decided I still loved the Mr. Bento, and requested a replacement, rather than a refund. I also ordered a Zojirushi Ms. Bento Vacuum Lunch Jar in Stainless Steel so that I can have a backup, and a choice of sizes. My short return to uninteresting leftover lunches vs. uninteresting cafeteria lunches has confirmed how much I prefer bento lunches.
An excellent lunch box/bento! October 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, don't believe any reviews with 1-3 stars.. they are troubled by what we call "ID-10-T" malfunction..
Test 1. It does not leak--- i filled my pack with soup, fried rice, fruits and japanese picles -- tested by rolling my pack, lightly kicking it, flipping it upside down, shaking it, etc... did not leak period~
Test 2. It will keep your food warm to HOT! -- My miso soup and fried rice stayed boiling hot after 2-3 hours.. my fruits stayed cold after an hour..
This is how I use my lunch jar:
1. Eat my fruits in the morning for breakfast while it's still cold. 2. eat my HOT food during lunch time..
If this is what you're thinking of, you've found the right lunch pack.
Save lots of $$$; enjoy a home-cooked meal at work or school October 8, 2008 Buying lunch every day was getting very expensive. And eating sandwiches from home got boring quick.
That's when I stumbled across the Zojirushi Mr. Bento available on Amazon. I spent nearly seven years in Japan and enjoyed the traditional Japanese lunch bento. With a few modifications to the menu, I'm able to fill the round jar with four food bowls. The two largest bowls can hold a serving of pasta, soup or stew, or simply grilled chicken and vegetables and rice. The two smaller bowls are perfect for carrying fruit and snacks or side dishes to accompany the main course. Each bowl is vacuum-insulated, so it keeps food warm.
Don't be intimidated. You need not prepare Japanese or Asian foods to use this lunch box. The containers can accomodate many foods. More often than not, I simply collect several leftovers in the bowls and toss in some fruit to go with it and I've got a lunch that is tastier and healthier than what I used to buy.
Trust me. You'll not only save money with this lunch box, you will also be the envy of your co-workers/classmates.
Ordering sushi when not using it! October 3, 2008 Great product. Keeps the food warm and ready to eat. Depending on what you bring in, the bottom containers either keep the food warm or hot. I brought in some Maryland Crab soup one day and it was warm after 6 hours. Brought in Portabello Mushroom today and it was still hot after the same amount of time.
The only time I won't be using it are the days that I feel like ordering sushi.
Ordered the Zojirushi Mini Stainless Thermal Lunch Box, Metallic Blue last night for my daughter.
The best lunch box! October 3, 2008 My husband used to carry big lunch box to work. Now he is using this small lunch jar for the same quantity and volume of meal. Never spills, easy to use
