Tools are adequate, but some have major problems (3- stars) December 4, 2008 Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2ASLELWIL79QK Despite the nicely weighted, stainless steel handles and generally solid construction, this set loses points for a thin ice bucket and useless bar knife. It does get points for visual appeal, the feel of the handles, and the organizer stand to keep everything within easy reach. Five out of the six tools work well. Watch the video for the problems I encountered.
It's OK December 3, 2008 I don't feel it is worth the $30 price, the bottle opener and the knife aren't good for much but looks, the bucket is too tiny and with no insulating properties or lid, the ice will melt very fast. The tongs are ok, the stirer is nice but the spingy metal thing that I am guessing is the whisk is weird looking and I feel would scratch whatever it is used in, it looks like it is to fit onto something but I can't figure out what? The box is plain and there are no instructions or even graphics to show how this thing is to look so it would not be good for a gift even if the rest of the set were nicer, the jigger is nice and is balanced. This is just an OK set for someone that wouldn't be using this much.
Great Starter Gift Set November 29, 2008 This is a great starter set for anyone setting up a bar. I am giving this as a housewarming gift to all my friends who are finally in their first homes - it's a really good quality basic set with all the tools needed to start entertaining with cocktails and you can't beat the price. It's packaged in a plain recyclable brown box - which makes a very nice and simple statement that I know my environmentally conscious friends will appreciate.
Pretty Good November 28, 2008 This is a pretty good starter barware set. It is sophisticated and durable enough for my home needs, but not fancy at all. All of my friends who come over for drinks find it very practical and useful, which is good enough for me. The ice bucket is not as heavy as the other one I own, but it seems durable enough to last. Overall, good value for the price.
Dishwasher safe November 28, 2008 To me, anything that is dishwasher safe is always a super plus. This stainless steel set is dishwasher safe and looks great. The handles are weighted so it doesn't feel cheap when you are using them. The ice bucket is...an ice bucket. It holds more than enough ice for a cocktail party for family gatherings. It's not like you will be leaving ice sitting out all day if you plan on using it for mixing. The strainer works, and fits on top of my shaker that I got at Target just fine. I love the double jigger since it has a handle and I don't have to worry about spilling alcohol on my hands when I am pouring.
I already have a knife I use to cut fruit, and won't really use this one just to cut fruit. I tried it, and it does cut lemons, but not as well as the knives I already own. The bottle opener opened a bottle of Michelob Ultra with no problems.
The set looks a bit cluttered on the stand when displayed, but it is nice to be able to keep them all organized.
All works as it should, and for about $30, it's an ok deal. It's very nice looking, and if you want something ascetically pleasing, this would be a nice set. It's a barware set, and everything works like it should. When it comes down to it, it is all depending on your personal taste if you like it, and if you think it will fit your home decor.
All in all, look carefully at the pictures and decide whether it will clash with your decor or match it perfectly. It matches well with mine, and I enjoy it.
