From Tassimo to Senseo August 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've owned a Tassimo machine for a couple of years and loved it. Expecially for the espresso and "short" coffees.
I moved recently to Europe and decided to try Senseo and am glad I did. I have found that the "single serve" bags of coffee not made for Senseo also work well. Many brands including Illy coffee make single serve pouches that you can use with these, even if the Douwe Egberts coffee that is made for the Senseo machine is very good.
I should say though, that the short coffees the Senseo makes are not made in the most correct way in my opinion. The Senseo doesn't create enough pressure to make a strong enough espresso. It also has about 3 times more water in the espresso than it should have. The Tassimo espresso is not Italian "caffe bar" style, but it is considerably better than the other machines in this category for Espresso.
Compared with Tassimo, Senseo coffee pods are also more reasonably priced and available for auto-delivery subscriptions from Senseo and Amazon.
All of that said, I'm very pleased with the American coffee that is brewed by the Senseo. I feel no guilt for serving Senseo coffee after dinner to guests and would also recommend it as a great single serve coffee machine in this price range. Worth every penny.
Great coffee, convenient and simple to use/clean July 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this newer, upgraded model (the Deluxe) b/c my husband wanted to bring my old Senseo to the office. I am very glad I upgraded! I never had a problem with my older Senseo. It produced a reliable, tasty cup of coffee in no time at all. But, the new one really is a better machine.
The Deluxe sports a sleeker look, runs quieter, and has a larger tank. It also lets me vary the cup/mug size. I do prefer a smaller, European sized coffee, unlike most Americans. But, my husband likes a big old mug! So, now we are both happy! What delights me the most are the new Espresso pods. A free espresso pod holder was included, as were a Brabantia holder, 2 packs of pods and a nifty cup. I really enjoy the espresso pods, and think they make a serviceable cappucino. My recipe/procedure is as follows: Run 1 cup (no pod) through the machine to warm your cup and the machine. Put a bit of low fat 1/2 and 1/2 or other milk in another cup and microwave for 20 seconds. Whizz the half and half around with a handheld frother/blender thingy. Then, brew the espresso into your drinking cup, pour in some of the warm milk, and top with the foam/froth. I sprinkle it with a bit of cinnamon. Yum!
I can't get the espresso pods at my grocery store, so I will buy them online. I am sure this whole setup costs me more than my old percolator, but it sure is cheaper than buying coffee out, and is always at my fingertips. I wholeheartedly recommend this coffee machine!
Makes the best coffee!!!! July 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Being originally from Holland I don't like American coffee very much, so having a Senseo is great!!! This is what coffee is supposed to taste like. The option for three different cup sizes is also great, that way you can make it even stronger or less strong. Absolutely great!
Very Good Product July 2, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Have had the unit for about a month, it works very well. I had a different single-serve unit (another company) that was much louder and did not hold up. I would recommend this unit. Very pleased!!!
Senseo Supreme The Best of the Bunch June 17, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Over the years I thrown away money on more coffeemakers than I will ever own up to. That was until I found Senseo. I now own three of them, from the basic model to the Supreme. With the Supreme you have your choice between a 3 ounce and 10 ounce cup of coffee blended perfectly within 30 seconds. And oh that frothy layer of foam!! Disregard other reviewers who say the machine is noisy or doesn't hold enough water. 1.) Yes it makes a gurgling noise brewing coffee. 2.) If you make more than 4 cups in a row FILL THE DARN RESERVOIR again. Duh. Others say the Senseo coffeemaker leaks. It will only leak if you are too stupid not to place the pods in the center of podholder. And lock the lid down. Duh again. Then there's the taste. If you think the sun rises on 7/11 or McDonald's coffee - stay away from the Senseo. You probably couldn't tell the difference if you were Jose .. whatever his name is. I actually wake up looking forward a cup of coffee. I have another mid morning and another mid afternoon. I'll have another just before going to bed. (There's something about that foam that really helps me snooze like a baby.) And let's not forget the latest studies from the UK. The flavanol compounds in coffee are extremely beneficial in preventing hardening of the arteries, resulting in fewer strokes and other heart diseases. Studies also shows coffee drinkers have much lower incidences of Alzheimers Disease. But back to the point. Buy the Senseo Supreme. Buy cartons of various flavored pods. And no complaining about the money. Do you want great coffee or not? P.S. Two tablespoons of Carnation French Vanilla (regular) in a 6 ounce cup of Senseo is a sin. Try it.
