$8 discount for getting a stupid logo? February 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
you can buy this plastic press or pay $8 more and get the exact same product with no logo... considering it should cost more to put a logo on a coffee press, what is the actual cost of this product? was this product originally destined for conference swag?
nevertheless, you will get a great cup of coffee using this travel press if you follow a few simple rules: 1) use a dark (roasted), coarse ground 2) don't overfill with hot water (leave at least two inches of room) 3) stir the coffee into the hot water 4) let sit for at least two minutes 5) s-l-o-w-l-y press the plunger... i, like others, have noticed a 'popping' or 'cracking' sound when using this press... i suspect it will not last long and will have a broken seal like others have reported here... but until then i will enjoy a good cup of coffee and "Give up bad coffee for good."
Great cup of coffee, poor plastic container February 13, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just bought one of these last night and I was so excited. I love french press coffee and have been dying to own one. And when I found this, it was exactly perfect for me. I'm a student and don't have much use for a coffee pot, but a lot more use for an electric kettle and this is the best way to get a good cup of coffee quickly. I haven't had any problems with the plunger, though it does seem a little short for the cup.
My problem is how fragile the container is. Admittedly, I did drop it, but seeing as it's "indestructible" according to the label, it cracked pretty quick around the edge of the cup and the double walled part. So now it's taped together, depsite being on it's third use. It is easy and the cup of coffee is amazing. But I guess be extra careful with the container, it won't put up with the occasional drop, which lets face it, is bound to happen.
No more Barney Miller coffee at work February 13, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The coffee club at work is hit or miss, but mostly miss for my tastes. I'm not a coffee expert, but it has to be more than brown water. This let's me make a nice strong cup of coffee. I would give it 5 stars if it had a strainer to keep out the chunks at the very end of the cup. I have made many cups it it's still going strong.
Good, not great... February 13, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a good value, but it's not a Lexus... you get what you pay for. Despite my rant, IT MAKES A GREAT CUP OF COFFEE!!!
However...
1) Filtration is mediocre - grind your bean a little less fine. If you buy bean and grind them at the store on the "Bunn-o-Matic", try the PERCOLATOR setting! [Note: The Bunn-O-Matic is a better grinder than ANYTHING you can buy for your home, unless you're ostentatious enough to think you're impressing your friend(s) with your $200 coffee grinder, and that grinding bean the instant you brew coffee makes it all the better. That's a bunch of hub bub and bugaboo. If you're at all serious about coffee, you'll consume every pound you buy before it ever gets a chance to degrade.]
2) PREVIOUS Bodum models had a second filter screen at the mouth port. I suspect they stopped doing that when people started pretending to like coffee by camoflaging it with whipped cream, frothed milk, zytrillium paste and all that other gorp that ruins a pefectly good cup.
BOY, could I use some anger management, or WHAT??? Sheesh!
3) It is plastic. It WILL hit the ground - it's Murphy's law of coffee mugs. It WILL break... eventually.
4) It's only TEN BUCKS, so stop whining!
5) If money is not the object, then spend more of it and get one of the PLANETARY DESIGNS units... Ooh La La!!! (Here is a link to one of their products!) Planetary Design Desk Press Stainless Steel French Press Cornflower Blue
Ok if you enjoy a mouthful of grounds... January 22, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I liked the whole idea of being able to make and drink my coffee out of the same thing, but it just doesn't work. The plunger seems really cheap and allowed at least 25% of the grounds to pass through leaving you with (for lack of a better description) "chunky" coffee. I would not recommend this product.
