A must have... August 22, 2005 It's a great item easy to use and easy to clean. Works really great and not expensive at all.
Great concept - but low quality - will jam permanently June 3, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I wish another company would make the same product with better quality. Although the concept is spot on, there's a problem with the rubber o-ring inside the pump - it will slide out of place and jam up the pump so that it becomes unusable. My first one lasted about 9 months before that happened, so I was willing to try again. The second one, however, lasted less than a month before the o-ring slipped and the pump jammed. There is no way to open it up to fix it. So until they fix this problem, this product is hit or miss. Caveat emptor!
Extend that wine's life! January 5, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this, and am happy with it. It "clicks" after 4 or 5 quick pumps for a 3/4 full bottle, and 7-8 clicks for a 1/4 filled bottle, to indicate vacuuum has been established, and the partial vacuum holds well, as does the wine!
The previous model did not click, however it certainly attained vacuum after about the same number of pumps..hearing the clicks is more reassuring!
I've now had it over a year..it's stood up to being dropped, and working well on quite a few wine bottles!
I always refrigerate leftover wine bottles, and use this gizmo. It does extend the wine's good taste for at least a few days in addition to the usual 2-3 days in the 'fridge before the wine tastes "funny".
Wine purists disagree on what's best to do for short term preservation, shy of adding expensive argon, and not nitrogen gas. Some recommend decanting the "leftover wine" into a smaller bottle and corking it, however other purists say that the exposure to oxygen during the pour defeats the purpose...go figure.
I've no reason to try for even a week of "corking up" a previously opened tasty bottle, so for these reasons i've got my money's worth, and it gets 5 stars.
The older model is more reliable. November 30, 2004 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Mine worked for a while, but then seemed to start to stick, which made it impossible to pump anymore. I tried soaking the entire mechanism several times in soap and water, but it still doesn't work. I initally liked the clicking feature and sleeker design of this model, but have gone back to using the old version, since this one stopped working.
Failed after 100 November 26, 2004 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The Concerto worked well for about the first 50 bottles then seized up. Required a little cooking oil to free it up. Then after 100 bottles, pieces of the pump fell out the bottom. Good concept, poor reliability.
