5 out of 5 stars Salton yoghurt maker   October 28, 2002

I love this product. I first tasted yoghurt in Greece and waited many years for it to hit American shores. Again, this summer, I marveled at the varieties of yoghurt in Europe--in any simple grocery store. I dislike the commercial yoghurt with its additives: gelatin, powdered milk, sugar, etc. I like a plain custardy product and this makes it--cheaply, easily, and delightfully.

The Salton YM9 1-Quart Yogurt Maker does a fine job and is much easier and much more convenient to use than the older Salton yogurt maker with its 5 or 6 little glass cups.

4 out of 5 stars Cultured my kitchen   September 19, 2002

I like everything about this unit except the lack of a better lid for the inner vessel, which seems to be a common complaint. I found instead that a quart-sized mason jar fits, and is completely sealable. I learned about this problem through sad experience when I went to transfer my new yogurt batch to the fridge, bobbled the container, and ended up splattering a quart of warm, probiotic yogurt all over my kitchen floor.

5 out of 5 stars Works Beautifully   September 11, 2002

I have tried and failed to make yogurt without one of these handy appliances for a long time. I love this machine. It will help you prepare a nice batch of yogurt in 4 to 10 hours. This keeps the yogurt at a temperature that will allow the yogurt to become prepared. All its takes is a little milk, and some culture and you are done. This way I can prepare yogurt with organic milk. It comes with a plastic container for preparation, you can use a glass jar, so you can store it in the same container that you make it in. I really like my machine, works like a charm, and saves you money by making your own at home.
