This is so cute and GLASS (a plus for me!) It frothed up fine - not as much as I'd like, but no doubt we stopped too soon. We didn't follow their suggestion for bitter dark plain chocolate, we had a Hershey's milk chocolate bar on hand. Pounded it into small bits, added hot milk and frothed away. Mmm - good!
pointless but fun July 24, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I thought the frothing thing in the lid was mechanical. It's not. It's basically a swizzle stick with rutter-type things on the bottom. Kinda like a mixer but you do it by hand.
I guess it does get things foamy, so yep. It does what it's supposed to do. I found it kind of heavy, because it's glass. It also makes at least 2 cups at a time, so that's very nice.
Definately better than mixing with a spoon.
Simple but it works July 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I somehow expected it to be more complicated, but it's pretty simple machinery. Nonetheless, it is easy to use and makes a tasty cup of cocoa. We haven't tried it with many varieties of chocolate, but I imagine hitting on the right kind will make the very best hot cocoa I've ever had. It can also be used to mix powdered drinks, which is nice for the summer when lemonade mixes are so refreshing.
Very pleasing to the senses.... July 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This pot makes an outstanding cup of hot chocolate with just the right amount of milky (not marshmallow) froth on top. The plastic parts are not what I'd call dishwasher safe -- and like most Bodum pots, the glass is VERY thin (took two tries to get an unbroken pot from Amazon). If you LOVE hot chocolate, it adds a visual and aromatic delight to your usual 'snuggle up and read' with a cup of hot chocolate day.
Easy to use, easy to clean July 24, 2008 Today the Bodium hot chocolate maker arrived from Amazon. Opened the box, read the directions, and within 5 minutes I was on my way to making quick hot chocolate.
I used Swiss Miss No-Sugar Hot Chocolate mix (purchased at Amazon by the way) and followed the directions. Within minutes we were treated to several cups of well mixed albeit not super frothy tasty hot chocolate.
What I did:
Measured the water out using the Swiss Miss box directions and poured it into the frother.
Heated the water in the microwave oven.
Added the mix, inserted the frothing attachment, and within minutes we were treated to cups of well mixed hot chocolate.
Clean-up is a breeze as the frother container and attachment are both dishwasher safe and easily washes in the sink. I know because I did wash the chocolatier in the sink before making hot chocolate the first time.
This winter we will try making hot chocolate using the recipe enclosed in the booklet. I look forward to many heart-warming days of winter drinking hot chocolate using this kitchen gadget.
Other pluses is the Bodium Chocolatiere can be used to mix other drinks such as lemonade (we'll try that next) to iced tea mix.
Overall, this is a nifty gadget worth purchasing.
