Bodum Pavina 15-Ounce Double-Wall Thermo Glasses (Tall Drink), Set of 2 March 4, 2008 Great glasses. Just have to be very careful in handling so as not to damage the inner glass.
Must Have February 24, 2008 I first saw these glasses at a relatives home. I fell in love with them immediately and used them the entire week I was there. She said she purchased hers at Bed Bath and Beyond. A set of 4 for about $25. My local stored doesn't have them, and I've not seen a set that price. I went to the website and then decided to google the name of the glasses once I found out. Then I found them on Amazon and for a slightly cheaper price. I bought two of the 12oz and 9oz.
They feel very fragile when first taking them out of the box and then you wonder when you read the warning about not using metal spoons in them and being careful when using ice. But really, I've had them for about two or three weeks now and use them several times a day. It's fine with normal use and probably not fine if you like to slam your ice in or something.
I've read in the reviews that there was a hole in the bottom of the glass and water will get caught inside when you wash them. I haven't found that to be the case. I see the sealed up hole where the glass was probably blown out, but I've had no problem with water going inside.
I haven't tried the dishwasher yet because I use them so often, I just hand wash and put them back in the cabinet. The glass does get cool to the touch when cold liquid is in there and slightly warm when hot is there, but it does not sweat at all. And I found pouring my hot tea in there doesn't hurt the glass either, if you're worried about the cold from ice or the heat from the drink cracking the glass.
I'd suggest trying a set out and seeing how you like them. I used the supersaver shipping so I only paid for the glasses. You have to wait a while before it actually ships, but the process is very quick once it actually ships. Hope this helps:)
Drink With All Your Senses! The Functionally Perfect Glass. February 21, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The Bodum Pavina glasses are beautiful. Each one is mouth-blown to form a clear one-piece glass chamber that holds your drink. Since it's clear, your drink appears to be floating in the glass. Cool point #1.
Cool point #2 especially for those of you living in hot places: It doesn't sweat. You know what I mean here? When you put really cold liquid in a glass and condensation runs down the outside and collects in a puddle at the bottom of the glass. That looks attractive on a Coke or Beer commercial, but not great for your desk or nice table!
Cool point #3: You can put hot drinks in the Bodum Pavina and the glass doesn't get hot. Because of the double-wall construction there's an insulated layer of air between the glass you touch and the glass that holds your coffee. Like a plastic thermal mug it stays warm a long time (also cold when you pour in something cold), but it's oh so beautiful.
Now to address some user complaints. Users have universally complemented the design and "cool" factor of the glasses, but some complained about them breaking. I've been using my other set of Bodum Pavina glasses all day, everyday for nearly two years. I finally broke one in May 2007, after 14 months. I start with cold water in the morning, followed by hot coffee. More water later. Some ice coffee or a Coke in the afternoon. All fine. It's thin, but tough glass. However, you've got to be sensible: just because the company says it CAN be washed in the dishwasher, doesn't mean you should. Throwing rock-hard ice into a glass and then stirring briskly with a tablespoon just isn't smart! How tough are these glasses? From readers' comments not as tough as a regular heavy drinking glass but with a little caution they are plenty strong enough.
The Bodum Pavina are the functionally perfect drinking glass that so beautifully shows off your drink. Now you can drink with all your senses!
HARD TO RESIST... BUT RESIST YOU MUST... February 17, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I fell in love with these cups the first time I held them in my hands. With piping hot coffee suspened in beautiful clear glass, I was mesmerized. So began my ill fated love affair with these glasses. In space of few months I went through 6 of them. Yup...SIX...urgh!!! I couldn't resist. Even when they broke into little pieces at every bump or ill fated couple inches of drop in my sink, I had to get another set. Nothing kept my hot drinks longer than these beauties...even now I keep them in my amazon cart and feel the flutter in my heart that longs to hold them again...I must resist...I must resist...
Use with Caution February 16, 2008 I loved these glasses at first but my opinion quickly changed after one of them broke. I read the reviews on Amazon cautioning you to use care as others had experienced the same thing. I realize they are delicate and you can break them by dropping ice too hard in them but the way in which this broke surprised me. Half way through the drink the liquid level started to drop. We noticed it right away and had a "what the heck?" moment. After holding up the glass and examining it we saw that at some point a quarter sized piece broke around the middle of the cup. It's so crystal clear I don't think we would have noticed the break until the glass was empty or until someone started bleeding in their throat. We were lucky in the fact that we saw the liquid drop in front of our eyes.
Anyway, the glasses are beautiful and they do keep beverages hot or cold but I wouldn't recommend them because of the danger.
