Perfect for hard cheeses. May 17, 2000 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
Easy to use. Easy to clean. The handle fits very comfortably and the width of the grater face matches cuts on most cheeses. Far better than losing bits of your skin when using the wash board style graters (though balance the item to be grated on a cutting board or be careful of your finger tips.) Haven't done the lemon zesting but I suspect the fruit wouldn't stand a chance. A very good buy for the money and I suspect a very welcome gift to most cooks.
Buy this, now! May 15, 2000 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
I was introduced to the Microplane in culinary school, and it was love at first sight. It replaces both a grater and a zester at times, as it takes off just the right amount of zest from citrus fruits, and shreds parmesan as thin as air. No more knuckle skin or fingernails in your food!

Skin an entire orange in 10 seconds! This is a fabulous tool. Professional or amateur, this tool will save you time and frustration. Not only is the Microplane Zester fast, it produces the perfect size zest.
My favorite grater ever April 28, 2000 42 out of 43 found this review helpful
Since receiving a Microplane zester and grater as a gift, my old tried-and-true box grater has been living in the dark. This thing is incredible. It's especially impressive when you think of how long it's been since something new in grater "technology" hit the shelves. I love the Microplane's shape--it's like a wand with a big comfy handle, so you just hold it with one hand over a dish or a pan or with the tip pressed on the countertop. The hardest cheese shears into grated fluff with almost no pressure. Storage is a no-brainer. It's about the size of a baster, so it lives in my flatware drawer. I'm in puppy love.
