Watch your knuckles July 23, 2008 "Some say the world will end in fire; some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire, I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate to say that for destruction ice is great and would suffice." Robert Frost was not talking about ice crushers, but he could have been when he said the "for destruction ice is great and would suffice." The Metrokane does a good job crumbling ice to pea to almond-sized shards, but keep the end nut tightened or you'll wind up with a mess of blades in your drink. (The wise will make a note of the order and orientation of the blades and spacers before they fall out the first time. The even wiser will take a good digital close-up." Also watch your knuckles when furiously turning the handle. For destruction, ice is great and will suffice.
A good buy June 6, 2008 Great product! It creates little pebbles of ice that are required for the Mint Julep, the Lime Ricky, or any other drink that needs an ice-cold temperature. The added surface area that's created from crumbled ice causes that layer of frost that appears on the outside of the glass (or silver cup).
As you turn the crank, you feel like a bartender in a 1920's speakeasy. Just keep the screw tight on the crank mechanism: Putting the parts back together isn't easy.
Save the box that this came in June 2, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Save the box because you will be sending this back. I wish I would have...I ended up spending 20 more bucks for an electrical crusher. This one is hard to use and the ice is still relatively large. I can not see this one ever being used! There should be less than one star cuz I would give it ZERO!
GREAT TO HAVE ON HAND, IT IS PORTABLE, AND PRACTICAL! September 12, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Love this very portable and handy ice crusher for these reasons: 1) It is portable and non electric. 2) Sometimes I use it for crushing 3 - 4 ice cubes for my ice tea. 3) It can also be used to crush a lot of ice cubes as it has a handy ice bucket included. 4) The crank will go forward or backward depending on how fine you want your ice. Forward is slightly larger ice chips. Backward is much finer chips. 5) The product is made very well, heavy duty and should last for many years. 6) Takes up very little space in my cabinet. (This is a very plus to me!)
Cons (all of these are minor): 1) Top is fairly heavy to lift as I am a smaller person. But this is because the product is made very well and should last a long time. 2) The ice cranker is somewhat hard to get started (I am a small person), but once you start it, it really does a great job of crushing ice! *The reason that I gave this a 5 is because it is made so well and takes up a very small space in my cabinet.
Glad I found this April 22, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have a 3 year old grandchild full time. This past year he has had frequent ear infections causing high fevers. Often when he is feverish, he vomits. I wanted crushed ice for him when he could not drink much. I was looking for a crusher that would make as much or as little coarse ice as I needed, was quiet to use (often in middle of night when everyone else sleeping) easy to clean and one I could handle since I have a little limitation of my left hand. (The top is somewhat heavy and could be difficult for someone with more than a little limitation) It doesn't move around when crushing the ice if I steady it with one hand. This ice crusher is great and meets my needs very well.
