Fragile but worth it November 11, 2008 We love these mugs but as it was mentioned here, they are very fragile. We have gotten first set as a gift and one of them cracked in the dishwasher while we have broken the second one while washing it. Since then we wash them only by hand and pay attention while doing it. I still think it is worth it, because they make very the experience of handling hot coffee very pleasant and it also look good :-).
Good so far September 10, 2008 I have used these cups around 8 times per week for 3 months now. Both mugs arrived in one piece and remain unbroken. The mugs are large and well made, and look impressive with a well-made latte in them. I hand wash the mugs, but I'm not especially careful. I've noticed that the outside of the mug gets warm with warm liquids inside, and with an iced drink condensation forms on the outside. This implies that the inner space is not a "vacuum" so the insulating qualities of these mugs is not as good as it could be. The flip side is that these will probably last longer because the glass isn't under pressure. Still, a double wall works better than a single wall and I'm happy overall.
These mugs have a wide opening, and if I had to buy again I'd probably go for the Bodum Jumbo mug with their smaller opening instead.
its hot and i'm not May 29, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love these glasses, albeit they are extremely fragile. I would expect a double layer of blown glass to be though. Two words of advice: hand wash. The benefits far outweigh the small amount of extra time to wash by hand; ie the glass serves it purpose amazingly well... your hot or cool beverage keeps its temperature for quite a long time without burning the hand when grasped or sweating leaving ring marks on tabletops. They are also quite beautiful and elegant in visual and tactile appeal... they impress.

Quality problems February 28, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought several sets of different Bodum Bistro mugs (latte, espresso, etc.) from Amazon. One set arrived shattered... so contacting Amazon to exchange. 2 sets seem to have quality issue.... I understand the mugs are mouth blown so there are endpoints (for mouth blowing I assume) at the bottom of the mugs. However, these endpoints are scratchy and sticking out of the bottom of the mugs.... They make the mugs not stable when set on table. Furthermore, it scratches my $3000 Jura coffee machine!!!!
Then there is one cup seem to be a bit asymmetric where the drinking top a bit up and down like ocean wave....... I know mouth blowing might not be perfect, but seem like this is a clear quality control issue.
I see the boxes say "Made in China".... & confirmed with Bodum that all their Bistro mugs are made in China
