5 out of 5 stars Fine design & good function   February 18, 2007
It's not hard to see why Bodum has been winning design awards for these mouth-blown double-wall fine glass tumblers. They are made of laboratory-grade borosilicate glass and thus tougher (and more expensive) than ordinary table glassware, but of course any glassware is vulnerable to some degree. We have poured both boiling-hot tea and iced drinks into ours with no ill effects. Of course no one with any sense would dump ice from a dispenser directly into any glassware, since an ice cube falling a considerable distance can deliver quite a sharp blow. There is no problem using them with hot drinks as the outer shell gets no more than pleasantly warm. They would hold heat better if they were silvered, of course, but wouldn't look so pretty. If you want best heat retention it is well to get a stainless mug with glass double-wall liner and sealing top. The plastic mugs endorsed by others are no doubt a good idea for children or heavy drinkers, although they will not hold heat as well and naturally cannot compare with the looks of glass.

5 out of 5 stars Keeps your drinks icy cold   January 20, 2007

I bought these glasses for my boss for Christmas. He loves them. I have a set of the smaller ones that I use mainly for wine. I plan on ordering the beer glasses for myself.

What a great gift for someone who had everything - a perspiration-free glass for their iced tea drink on a hot summer day.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for everything cold that sweats and ruins your pretty tabletops.   August 24, 2006

Gave these to my mom. She loved them, now I need to get some for myself. They are great, wish they were a little bigger since we use them more for ice water than for beer.

3 out of 5 stars Great Glasses, but only if the user is great, too...   January 28, 2006

These double-walled glasses kicked some major butt.

While they lasted.

I love beer, and these were perfect for keeping a tall-n'-frosty, FROSTY. They were great.

BUT, within a month, both had fallen prey to a house with dangerous, hard surfaces; their thin walls were little splinters of light on the floor and sink, respectively.

So, if you are sure you can care for them gently and nicely, I'd say get them. If you have a sink with a little bit of a slope that causes them to tip, or you leave them near the edge of a drying rack, you'll be living in constant fear of breaking them.

If I could shelter them, I'd have a set of twelve.
