Spiegelau Vino Grande Burg Wine Glasses March 8, 2007 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
We were trying to replicate the Spieglelau burgundy glasses we have in our other home; I had forgotten the exact name/level, but these are not even close. I suspect the next step up, as in "Authentis" is the level I am after. The bowl and lip of glass are much too thick for transmission of best taste, imo. No wine snob here, but once you have drunk exc. wines from a great glass, there is no going back. The price, delivery and service from Amazon was excellent, but this level of Spiegelau is not in the ballpark; my suspcion is all the glass mfg'ers have dumbed down the quality level to chase the "walmart crowd".
Very nice for the price February 3, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Put these next to the Riedel glasses and they show very nicely considering they are half the price.
By far the best at this price October 23, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While you can certainly buy more expensive stemware like Riedel, these Spiegelau glasses are every bit as beautiful as other makers of grand cru stems, but simply put, offer much better value. If you can get these for what amounts to $8-10 per glass, it's a terrific price. These glasses do go in the dishwasher but use caution, as they are delicate. I usually prefer to wash by hand. For those that love great wine served the proper way in proper wine stems, this is the way to go.

Very nice glasses! Especially at the price. Mine came overpacked in a huge box with lots of pillow pack, so they've heard and addressed the breakage complaints of prior reviews. Yes, you should hand wash; ours pick up minor water marks from drying in the dishwasher. Yes, they're somewhat fragile, but that's part of the experience of a fine crystal.
A couple of things helped us decide on these v. the Reidels or the other Spiegelaus: first, these are the ones recommended (twice over several years) by John & Dottie, the wine critics at the WSJ (yes, over the Reidels and over other Spiegelaus, considering the price.) They say "Both whites and reds show well in it."; 2nd, they're the right height (8.5 in) to fit in our kitchen cabinets (and dishwaher, but see water spots above). Taller glasses would have been a storage problem for us since our shelving for glasses has about a 9.25" spacing.
I'd buy them again and certainly recommend them.
Great Value February 22, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I looked at several everyday wine glass sets & these are the best value. Very well made & attractive. Can be used for every day or special occasions.
