5 out of 5 stars Best book on Crohn's yet   November 8, 2008

There are three reasons why I think this is the best cookbook out there for anyone who has Crohn's or colitis.
1. Roscher's book does NOT follow the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which is ridiculously complicated (and expensive) besides being not proven to even work. All the research I've personally done supports Mrs. Roscher's approach, not the SCD's long list of restrictions and 'illegal' foods.
2. The recipes in this book are really good, and easy to make.
3. Roscher uses inexpensive ingredients you can find anywhere.

Okay, I need to add a fourth reason -
4. I have not had a flare-up since I started using this book about one year ago. I'd say my symptoms have reduced 80% since I really got into this book. I have tried nearly half the recipes in Roscher's book and...this leads me to reason 5:
5. My entire family enjoys these recipes, not just me. So, I don't have to cook a special meal for myself and one for everyone else - everyone shares these meals.

If you are recently diagnosed as having Crohn's or colitis and you want to avoid the confusion of complicated, expensive diet regimens which only serve to oversensitize you to many foods, try this book first. You will thank me (and Mrs. Roscher).

I've bought two other copies of this book for friends suffering from IBD and they love it too.

Doctors will tell you a million different things about diet once you're diagnosed with IBD. Do your own research (and don't confuse IBD with IBS). Start with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. And buy this cookbook - it's the simplest, cheapest, and most delicious way to control your diet while still ENJOYING FOOD.

2 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY if you want to follow the SPECIAL CARBOHYDRATE DIET   October 16, 2008

There are illegal ingredients in more than 1/2 the recipes....not a good book if you are trying to follow the SC Diet. Wish I had read the reviews before purchasing;o(

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book for People with UC   November 29, 2007

I was diagnosed with UC in December of 2001. I studied up on the disease to educate myself and I found recipes here and there that I liked. The problem was that many of the recipes required the purchasing of expensive items at the health food store that I had never heard of. Another problem was that the food was stuff that I normally wouldn't eat. This book is perfect for an average UC patient. By average I mean you're not used to spending a ton of money on your nightly dinner. These recipes taste wonderful and I have already noticed an improvement in my flare-ups. The rest of your family won't tell the difference that the mac and cheese is bowel friendly. I think this is the best UC cook book currently out on the market. I love it!
