You will not be able to stop cooking November 4, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This has quickly become my favorite cook book. Since I received it, I've made a ton of things from it, and everything is so delicious. I can tell you right now that the Tofu Florentine will change the way you look at brunch forever, The Cheater Baked Beans wowed my entire extended family. I'm a big soup person, and Double Pea Soup has totally made my top 5 favorites of all time, although the Ancho Lentil Soup with Grilled Pineapple gave it a run for its money. I could just go on and on forever, but I'll just name-drop a few of my other favorites: Leek and Bean Cassoulet with Biscuits, Cholent, Spicy Tempeh with Broccoli Rabe and Rotelle, Skillet Corn Bread, Pumpkin-Cranberry Scones, and Terry's Favorite Almond Cookies. Everything comes out flawlessly.
Besides the recipes, the book is chock full of really useful information like notes about the utensils you'll need, how to prep certain things, cooking times, and handy little icons to let you know if a recipe is gluten free, low fat, quick and easy, etc. Not to mention the drool worthy photo spread.
Love it! You will to.
I am Veganomicon and so can you November 3, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
The Veganomicon may be the ultimate vegan cookbook, but it should please the palate of anyone, vegan or no. At the beginning are sections on preparing and cooking vegetables, beans and grains. A set of icons is provided to show at a glance if a recipe contains soy or gluten or if it can be prepared within 45 minutes. Even if you've never soaked a legume in your life, this book will take you through the process.
The recipes that follow show an astounding variety, all possible without animal products. Mediterranean Style Lima Beans and Roasted Fennel and Hazelnut Salad might sound typically vegan, but there are also recipes for poundcake, banana nut waffles, apple caramel bars and rosemary focaccia. Most recipes include tips on substitutions, make ahead components or leftover suggestions.
My favorite aspect of the Veganomicon is that the recipes don't require pre-packaged mixes or expensive packages of soy crumbles and yet are easy enough for a beginning cook to get in the kitchen and make a good meal. Many ingredients are described in the "Stocking the Veganomicon Pantry" at the beginning of the book so any questions about a recipe can be answered quickly. And even if you don't have easy access to a health food store, there are plenty of 'supermarket friendly' recipes.
I would suggest starting with the Rumnog Pecan Cookies so you have something to snack on while reading and highlighting the recipes you want to make.
I'm goin' back to 'Nom! November 2, 2007 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Isa & Terry have done it again. This book contains everything that a cookbook should, vegan or otherwise.
The recipes have been kitchen tested, and this makes all the difference.
I've got all three of the books by these lovely ladies, and will snatch up every recipe collection they release in the future. None of the recipes I've tried have let me down, and even die-hard omnivores love the dishes from these references.
The food in this book is good, and not just "for vegan food," either. The dishes in this tome hold their own against any type of cuisine.

I am now the proud owner of all 3 of the PPK spawned books! Not one of them has let me down! They are like children. Each one is unique and delightful in it's own way. Veganomicon is not only a fantastic cookbook, but it is a fun read, as well! I really enjoy how the layout is much like a classroom textbook, but without all of the sleep inducing jargon. It is very easy to navigate! I may just be able to convert my omni husband with this one, and for that I salute you, girls! Keep up the good work!
Awesome cookbook, even if you aren't vegan! November 2, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
As someone who was not vegan, I fell in love with Isa's book "Vegan with a Vengeance". It was one of the best cookbooks I ever owned. It showed someone like me with no clue about vegan cooking how to actually prepare vegan dishes. I thought it would be hard to top until Veganomicon came out.
I recently cut out animal products completely and was so excited to receive Veganomicon. The recipes are awesome and would be loved by vegans and non-vegans alike. I think this needs to be on the bookshelf of anyone who cooks. Did I mention the recipes are awesome? Not only that but they are delicious and innovative. I love this cookbook.
