not so hot March 9, 2008 He sounds like he's got a chip on his shoulder about women. The writer seems to be arrogant. I wish him well on his search. He'll need it.

First time author, Givme Wine's collection of short stories, is for all singles and those in relationships. These stories will make you laugh, cry a little, hold your lover tight, or head for the door. There's a good deal of poignancy and smile-out-loud times, contained inside this book. Givme, however, may just have a knack at making bad choices. Consider this, from "Coronado Cosmo: "...If your girlfriend goes to NYC, gets drunk and ends up in some stranger's hotel room...dump her right NOW." In another story, "Long Liner," Wine's naivete shows through in a conversation with his friend, Linda: "...You seen Helen, how is she doing?" "Why she and Sally are so happy...they've moved in together and are passionately in love." I nearly dropped my pint. "Do you mean to tell me...Helen is gay," I gasped. "Well sure stupid." Linda seemed amazed.
Givme Wine just can't catch a break. And, that's too bad because his bio states he is, among other pursuits, an avid surfer! He's a likeable, if somewhat hapless character and you'll find yourself cheering him on and hoping he finally recognizes/gets what he wants.
This book of short stories belongs in your backpack; in your bathroom; by your bed; and definitely on your list of books that reveal and celebrate the humor of life, love, sex and other human foibles.
