But if you're a lover of the cuddly cat who's a bit round at the edges, you know you want this, and you're gonna get it! And you should because it's a colorful addition to you other books.
It's fun and I'd say aimed at older children-i.e. adults, as it contains a few recipes that use alcahol, but, you'll also find several child friendly recipes where your little darlings can help you-or vice versa. And like Garfield's fabulous dictionary, you have a sprinkling of his strips here-of course!
Most of the recipes are easy and straightforward and divided into sections e.g. Fundamentals has chicken, meat, fish and where would our great nation be without pizza! There's Pasta-Palooza, Partyfood, Thrill of the Grill, Cool Kid Food and Snack Attack all topped off nicely with Sweets and Treats-so a little something from each food group then.
Not the healthiest recipes-I have to be brutally honest, BUT if you eat right for 80% of the time, you can get away with these naughty recipes the other 20%. And while I'm here, I highly recommend McKeith's You Are What You Eat book and it's sibling cookbook. And did you know there's a Friends cookbook? Yep-go for it. And why not check out the books by Olde England's REAL royalty-Delia Smith and Nigella Lawson. And maybe Jamie Oliver if you can understand his slang...Delicious. Okay, now I'm hungry.

Our son loves to cook. He also loves Garfield. He is living away from home during his college break, and, being an ever concerned mother, when I saw this book I thought what a great book to send to our son for his summer fun, and it could be a great survival book. I picked it up out of a sense of fun and mother's happiness, and, to my delight, I found a serious cook book lay deliciously hidden beneath the cover. Ahh, "Decadent Roasted Blue Chees Potatoes," "Magnifico Mushroom Risotto," "Beat Me. Whip Me. Make Me Eat Rosemary Scalloped Potatoes," ah yes, like the great Native American Tradition, this is a book for the Heyokas out there, and the jesters. It is cooking with heart, with fun, and what fellow or gal with a great sense of humor and a great palate wouldn't just love the greatness of this hidden treasure book of fun and food.Of course, there is ever-practical advice, such as Garfied's Fine Dining Faux Pas (Lord only knows who your child might be dating, and they can kindly leave this page open so that the "would-be date" will not embarrass your child while dining in a fine establishment). Thus, the advice, and this is just one of many, that one should not gargle with your aperitif, could simply be one of many saving graces. I highly recommend this book. I readily admit I have kept the copy I bought for our son, and ordered many more for the rest of our children so that after a hard day, they may laugh and cook and be oh so glad to have an outrageous mother who has taught them love, laughter, and fine dining make for a happier day.
