A Diet for Life August 11, 2006 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
Our culture has addicted us to highly processed foods, which I believe lead to many of the health problems we experience today. This book is about maintaining a healthy eating style for LIFE that excludes highly processed foods, including refined sugar and processed flour. This diet will help you to be healthier, feel better, and live longer. The only additional thing you need is the motivation to stick to it. --Dr. Fred P. Gallo, author of Energy Tapping and Energy Tapping for Trauma: Rapid Relief from Post-Traumatic Stress Using Energy Psychology
Dr. Gott & Robin Donovan pair up to write a fantastic, sensible book! August 10, 2006 21 out of 23 found this review helpful
I've never been one to fall for the latest diet fad, but Dr. Gott's plan seemed to be based on such basic, good old-fashioned common sense that I thought I'd give it a try. I found the book to be extremely accessible and the plan Dr. Gott lays out is, indeed, very sensible. By simply cutting out flour and sugar, you'll be able to eat a healthier diet with hardly a second thought--and you'll probably lose weight, too!
The fact that the book includes so many recipes is a huge bonus, making it that much easier to make healthy choices every day. All of the recipes I've tried have been delicious and easy to make. In fact, I liked the recipes so much that I bought coauthor Robin Donovan's other book, Campfire Cuisine (click on her name in the byline to see this book. It's written for camping, but all of the recipes include "make it at home" variations and they're all unbelievably easy and tasty. Some have sugar and flour, but plenty of them don't.)
I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to eat a healthier diet--whether or not you want to lose weight. Avoiding highly processed foods is just a good idea, regardless of whether you're overweight. In the long run, you'll feel better and you may even live longer.
Dr. Gott's No Flour, No Sugar Diet August 5, 2006 45 out of 47 found this review helpful
Fabulous book and Dr. Gott's program works! This book is easy to read. Now I fully understand why this basic way of eating works. I began this eating program 3 1/2 years ago after being a faithful reader of Dr. Gott's syndicated column in the Pasadena Star News. I had no other direction except for eliminating flour and sugar from my food intake. My weight dropped; I was not hungry; I was able to eat anywhere by simply excluding those two items and most importantly, I have kept the weight off for three years. I naturally came down to the ideal weight for my height and frame. The recipies are great, the ingredients are simple and it does not cost anything! Life is good, keep up the good work, Dr. Gott!
Good Common-Sense Advice, GREAT recipes! March 6, 2006 122 out of 126 found this review helpful
This book is full of good, common-sense advice about how to eat a healthier diet. If you're a person who eats a lot of fast food or junk food, this book will really help you make more nutritious choices. By cutting out flour and sugar, it forces you to choose less processed foods, which are naturally better for you as they usually contain a higher nutrition to calorie ration than processed foods, which are full of empty calories.
I especially like the recipe section. Everything i've made from the book so far has been delicious--seafood gazpacho, halibut baked with fennel and sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic salmon, pork chops with dried cherry reduction, spicy peanut sauce. Even the sugar-free desserts are delicious. I especially liked the lemon panna cotta and I'm looking forward to trying the strawberry crepes with dark chocolate sauce, too!
This book will definitely help you make better food choices, and it will give you lots of ideas for what to cook, too!
