Fun at first, until the initial excitement wears off... December 12, 2008 This book had be very excited to start making purees and hiding them into my foods in an effort to eat more healthfully. All the recipes sound really delicious, but after making the first 4-5, I wasn't so keen on the idea of having to add an extra step into cooking everything, by that I mean pureeing the veggies that go in to the recipe. I bought a Magic Bullet to do all my pureeing, a rice cooker to steam my veggies, but once I got going, I realized, this is too much work! I'd rather just eat vegetables on the side! I know Jessica says it's very easy and that you find one day a month to puree and freeze everything you're going to use in your recipes, but that's really only going to work for those who are committed to cooking like this all month long, not for those of us who just want to try a recipe here and there from time to time. I found myself with a freezer full of unused purees after the excitement wore off and I was bored with trying any more recipes. THat being said, I most enjoyed the "cigars", taco meat, and cous cous recipes. The sweet potato pancakes had an odd texture, the chicken tenders were bland, and the spinach brownies recipe tasted like...spinach. My husband still peeks his head into the kitchen when I'm cooking to make sure I'm not trying to "Sneak" any purees into the food. I'd rather take a straight-forward approach to veggies and keep them as a SIDE dish, not INSIDE the main dish! p.s. you can get a bunch of free recipes from this book at oprah's site.
Very unhappy December 10, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this last year for Christmas.(2007) I Have not use it once. Because you have to PUREE everything for all the recipes. If you have a lot of time for this hard work then get book. I thought it was easy recipes. (NOT SO)
Love it! December 8, 2008 I loved this cookbook - I just let the li'l ones pick out what they want by looking at the appetizing pictures!
Not helpful.....yet December 8, 2008 I bought this book hoping to get my 21 month old to eat a more balanced diet. However, we have since found out he has a mild sensory processing disorder as well as some low tone in his mouth, contributing to his "picky" eating. I have tried a few recipes without much success with him. However, my husband and I really like the chicken nuggets. I still have hope that the book will be helpful.
Why not get Chase Lapine's book December 6, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I think the sneaky chef books are way better, why not support a writer who is not backed by a wealthy past his prime comic.
