While Kevin Zraly wrote the original version of this book many years ago, it has been updated and is very relevant in the newest edition. While the core remains the same regarding the principles of wine and wine tasting, Zraly keeps it very fresh with interesting statistics and sidebar notes as well as up-to-date analyses of the various wine regions. A great book for people looking to learn more about the world of wine, as well as a reference for those who already are familiar.

Fantastic book January 12, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Before reading this book, I knew that I liked wine, but not much else. I was overwhelmed whenever I went into a wine store with a decent selection. This book addressed all of my basic wine questions (i.e. does wine need to be decanted?) and also gave me tons of information about the history and geography of wine. It's written well and without pretense. After reading this book, I'm more excited about trying out new wines than ever.
