I am not a vegan but I plan on creating many of these dishes. They are healthy, delicious, and enticing no matter your diet! Great job Terry and Isa!
No fake meat! A dream come true October 28, 2007 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I got vegan with a vengence a few months ago and have been steadily cooking my way through it, so I got this book right away! I love that the authors don't use fake/processed products which is so hard to find in the world of veg cookbooks. This book offers a HUGE variety of creative recipes, with easy to find ingredients. I made the spicy eggplant stew last night, and it's already a favorite! The authors don't go on and on about the benefits of veganism either(since I already know!). While browsing through this book, the fact that it's completely vegan goes to the back of my mind and I can just concentrate on all the amazing food I'm going to cook! And that's something I think everyone can appreciate.
Perfect for vegans and non-vegans alike! October 28, 2007 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
There's a perception amongst non-vegans that vegan food has to be bland, weirdly flavored, incomplete, strange, or inaccessible to them. This book blows that perception away with tons of straightforward, delicious, and hearty meals that will satisfy both vegans and non-vegans. I'm not a vegan, but my girlfriend is, and this book is perfect for making meals both of us can eat and enjoy. The recipes are recognizable and appetizing without coming across as "hippie" or "granola." Unlike other vegan cookbooks which often default to typical salads, wraps, and other less-than-inspiring recipes, this book is filled to the brim with accessible, interesting, and extremely appetizing fare that ranges from hearty entrees to delicate soups and appetizers. I already have a growing list of things I want to make from it.
If you're a vegan, buying this book is a no-brainer. If you're not a vegan, you'll be stunned at what this book can offer you.
Another Cookbook October 27, 2007 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This book is wonderful. It is "The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook"!!! Just reading the recipes I could taste it! What is really cool is ---the recipes are so easy to fix. It also let's you know if it is low fat, gluton free, soy free and best of all ..... if it is supermarket friendly. This isn't the typical vegetarian cookbook. It has recipes for REAL food. They even have a section that tells you "When NOT to Cook Low-Fat!" Can you imagine? I love it.
By the way, Veganomicon are the words Bruce Campbell said in Army of Darkness!
A must have October 27, 2007 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I heartily recommend this book, if only for the chickpea cutlet recipe (it'll rock your world). A very comprehensive cookbook, using more often than not easily acquired ingredients (from your local supermarket). A pleasure to read, with icons that help you determine if the recipe is soy or gluten-free, can be made under 45 minutes, etc; plus a primer on how to cook grains, beans, and vegetables. The authors' care and dedication at producing this masterpiece is evident throughout the book. So do yourself or someone you love a favor and buy this now! You won't regret it.
