5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Cookbook EVER   March 8, 2007

I love this cookbook. It is the fourth I have purchased to give as gifts. I cook alot and this book has just the right degree of difficulty and taste. You will love it if you are a novice or a gourmet. It has so many wonderful, practical tips that you can't go wrong.

5 out of 5 stars As good as I heard!   February 2, 2007

I had heard from a friend that this was a great cookbook, and it did not disappoint. The photos are beautiful, and I can't wait to try out some of the recipes.

I received this as a gift from a friend who lives in the same town as the bakery. She eats lunch there regularly so gave me some hints on what recipes I should try. I would love to say I have made them all, but every one I have tried so far, my family really enjoyed so I keep making the same things over again. Love the chicken pot pie and chocolate chip cookies.

The appeal of this book to me is that it represents a small town bakery. It has beautiful pictures and it is not just a pastry/dessert book, but also has a few other types of recipes. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a good baking book, not just for those of us who have many cookbooks.

5 out of 5 stars How Sweet It Is!   June 22, 2006

This morning I baked the Totally Rummy Pound Cake for the first time for a co-workers birthday. I kid you not- one bite in and all I heard was, "Mmmmm, I can taste the rum! Mmmmmm, ohmygod this is SO GOOD!"

Genius cookbook. Like the other reviewers have said, Rebecca not only gives recipes with practical ingredients, but they turn out beautifully with a taste to match.

Also: I adore the down-to-earth anecdotes ("My best-selling scone ever.") and praise the clear layout. PRAISE it. I don't know who published Williams Sonoma's "Savoring Tuscany" cookbook, but I flipped through it earlier and thought, "Who can read this?!" the pages were so busy! Kudos to Ten Speed Press, after seeing that I appreciate The Pastry Queen all the more.

In short (too late) buy this cookbook. It's worth every penny and the lucky people who get to eat from it will tell you so.

5 out of 5 stars The best cookbook ever.   June 13, 2006

I have collected well over 150 cookbooks and I have to say that Rebecca Rather's book, The Pastry Queen, is (by far) my most favorite! The recipes are well-written and well-chosen. Most all of the ingredients can be found in my pantry, therefore I do not have to run to the store to purchase an ingredient that I may never use again. The photos are phenomenal and I enjoy all the stories and antecdotes that she adds to each recipe. Positively a wonderful cookbook that I can't help but covet!
