5 out of 5 stars The Pastry queen   May 9, 2007
An excellent book with easy to follow instructions and pictures of the end product. Also an inspirational story about how she got started. I'm looking forward to looking at her Christmas book that will be out.

5 out of 5 stars Dessert heaven   May 6, 2007
This is a terrific book of amazing recipes. Everything I've tried has been wonderful. My family loves the homemade granola.

This is a great book. I return to it often. The pictures are wonderful. I have tried several items and found them to be delicious.

I am loving this cookbook. Her desserts are really to die for. They are big, delicious and beautiful!
I would say she doesn't offer much advice for problems. For example I just made some pecan bars and they wouldn't get hard in the center even though I followed the recipe word for word and there was no advice in the book for what to do if the middle won't cook through.
The book has beautiful pictures too and nice stories. I would recommend it only for serious bakersthough. It is intense cooking!

5 out of 5 stars My most treasured cookbook!   March 22, 2007

This is my favorite cookbook EVER. Rebecca not only gives you wonderful recipes to try, but she adds helpful notes on the preparation. For instance, "My Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies", tells you that she uses a stand-up mixer with 575 watts to save time and energy to mix the heavy batter. This is one of my favorite recipes from the book, but it is difficult to choose just one....they are all wonderful. When we have dinner guests, I always ask if anyone would like to take some cookies home with them....they almost knock me over getting to the kitchen.

I have not been to her cafe/bakery in Fredricksburg, but my daughter has promised to take me this year to celebrate my 70th birthday! We plan to eat breakfast AND lunch at Rather Sweet Bakery every day that we are there. Hopefully, I can get an autographed copy of her new cookbook which is due out this fall, Pastry Queen Christmas.

If you don't have Rebecca Rather's cookbook, you need to treat yourself to one right now and plan a trip to Fredericksburg, TX.
