I own literally hundreds of cookbooks, and in it's category, I must say this is one of the best I own. Yes, there are the obvious recipes, but with a fantastic twist! On the first month after getting it, I made the scones about five or six times! And the Tomato-basil soup is heavenly.
And I must say, while I am trained as a chef, these recipes are simple enough for anyone who likes to cook. Even my single, bachelor apartmet dwelling friends can make them, and trust me, THAT is saying a LOT! I had to practically wrestle this book out of one of them who had "borrowed" it from me and got such great results that he was quite unwilling to part with it! enough said, right?

Ina Garten can do no wrong. I have all of her books and love them all. They are fun to read with beautiful pictures and the preparation is easy for the most part. Great recipes!
Barefoot Contessa Cookbook February 19, 2008
I have now made 5 recipes out of this book and each one was delicious and easy. No surprise since Ina Garten ran a successful business for years based on these very recipes, so they've been tested hundreds of times. I'd recommend this book to anyone.
Do take the time to read the preface and intro to each chapter and recipe. They are entertaining and useful.

I have been watching Ina and making her recipes for years. This year I finally got through to my family that I would love a Barefoot Contessa cookbook for Christmas. I received not one but two. barefoot contessa at home and the barefoot contessa cookbook. The wait was worth it! I tried several new recipes over the holidays and just as her recipes from her TV show, they were perfect. In addition, not only can Ina cook, but she has a simple, genuine style that makes you feel like a she could be a wonderful friend.
