Fabulous Inspiration and Techniques December 30, 2007 After a lot of years off from baking I bought this book and got inspired, albeit a little late this year, to bake and deocrate some cookies for Christmas gifts this year. This book was one of the best I've seen. It has clear instructions, great recipes and really good illustrations and photos. Next time I decorate I'm going to try the glace icing recipe for a more translucent look.
I highly recommend buying this book.
Good cookies, blah design December 8, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this book looking for some inspiration for Christmas cookies. The basic sugar cookie recipe in this book is wonderful, and I'm looking forward to trying out some of the other recipes. The Glace Icing is also very good, along with the explanations of how to use it. The decorating instructions seemed a little vague in places, so that if you didn't have some notion of what you were doing they would not be helpful. My big gripe with the book, however, is an aesthetic one; I was expecting more modern, graphically interesting ideas for decorating cookies and that is not at all the style here. I guess I didn't take a very close look at the cover. Most of the cookies described are very "elegant" - a little twee and over-the-top for my taste. I have no interest in molding bibs and roses out of chocolate, or gilding cookies. All well and good if you're making cookies for a wedding or some very fancy do, but not quite what I wanted. Again, the basic recipes are excellent, so I'll have to come up with decorating ideas myself.
Beautiful cookies! August 4, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've made several recipes from this book, and so far, everything has been delicious. The cookies look great, too. This book has inspired several ideas, and I've learned a few new decorating techniques. I wouldn't recommend this book to someone looking for some quick decorating ideas to do with the kids, because most of these cookies are pretty time consuming, and I imagine would be difficult for kids.
Creative Cookies July 13, 2007 Gorgeous cookies. Not sure if they are the type I would make for day-by-day but surely great ideas for that special occasion. Toba explains very well the techniques used in the book. His ideas can also be used in the decoration of cakes and petitfours. For a cookie fanatic it is an inspiration.

Not quite what I was expecting, but all and all a good book.
