good cookie! April 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The recipe for royal icing in this book is scrumptious! It taste like "Cookies by Design". The cookies, however aren't spectacular, but they are all very good. There are alot of good ideas in this book. I have used it alot. I am very glad I bought it.
Great Illustration April 13, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book has some wonderful pictures and idea. Unfortunately it doesn't give clear enough instruction on the decorating. Maybe I should have bought cookie decorating for dummies...but I thought this one would be more help. The author does beautiful work though and if you have talent similar to hers, you're in for a real treat with this book.
Truthfully - just average April 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've only just flipped through this book, but it's average at best. The color chart is the best feature. There are some fun ideas, but nothing truly spectacular. The flooding technique in the photos is TERRIBLE - the icing wasn't runny enough, so you can see the squiggle lines. The products don't look as polished as they could. A better choice is Cookie Craft.
Color chart very helpful April 1, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I purchased this book last year when I was strugging to come up with color schemes for my cookies. The book contains a section on mixing colors and how to coordinate a palette that's invaluable. In fact, I pull out this book everytime I make cookies to get my colors right. I also think her idea of adding vegetable shortening to royal icing to get a creamier texture is brilliant. It does make for a "bumpier" surface but the tradeoff in mouthfeel is worth it. I'm all for cookies that taste good -- not cookies that only look perfect. I don't think that this one book contains all that a cookie baker will want to know about the craft, but I think it's a very good addition to have to your personal reference library.
Great for beginners and fun to do with kids April 4, 2007 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
This book is GREAT, AWESOME, FABULOUS, FANTASTIC!!! I just can't say enough!!
I am a stay at home mom always looking for some new activities to do. I have never baked anything but choclate chip cookies and cupcakes from a box, and I wanted to try something new even though I am a bit challenged in the kitchen. :-)
This book outlines everything you need to get started and even tells you where you can find your "equipment". At no time did I feel overwhelmed in getting started. My 4 year old son and I, plus my neighbor and her kids (6yrs & 14yrs) had the best time decorating our Easter cookies. The kids especially enjoyed eating the last of the icing from the icing bags!! This is a great activity to pass a rainy day or cold afternoon stuck inside. My cookies didn't look like the author's, but I could see I was getting better at decorating with each cookie I did. I can't wait to bake some more!!
