Non Professional Cake Baker and Sweets Lover June 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this book! I just made the swiss meringue buttercream (having never made any sort of frosting in my life) and it was delicious. Took it to a birthday party and was enjoyed by all. The instructions are laid out very well in this book, and that made it easy to cut the recipe in half and have it still taste good and look good.
I also made the purse cake earlier this year. My first try at fondant. Again, I found the instructions to be very thorough and easy to follow. And the chocolate cake recipe for that was delicious as well and past the taste-test of my co-workers who are very picky. haha!
Overall, the projects in this book are a lot of fun and I find they are helping me to learn to work with cake ingredients I hadn't before - such as gumpaste and fondant - and are making me get adventurous in my decorating.
Looking forward to her next one.

Pretty cakes, but... May 31, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
There are definitely some pretty cakes in this book and I can see why people (including me) have bought it. However the recipes are average at best and she makes things more complicated than they have to be. For example, when making the shoe she has you cut a piece of styrofoam to shape...why not just use some fondant or cardboard? Also, several of the cakes are the same exact cake, just decorated differently! She could have just included variations at the end then added some different cakes to book!
Excellent "how-to" book! May 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased two books and this book is by far the better learning guide. The language and illustrations a easy to understand and the pictures are wonderful! A must-have for any fondant/gumpaste lover!
MmMmmmm....Yummy May 1, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book offers two amazing treats for either the home or professional baker....One is that the recipes are scrumptious! The red velvet is so moist and delicious and as for the chocolate cake.... Cocoa and fudgy....what more can you ask from chocolate cake?! Two is that when I opened up the pages of this book. I was just in awe at the decorations and techniques that Elisa offers to us. Cute and beautiful is what your final product will end up as. If anyone wants to a great pastry cake book this is the one to buy!!
