Not what I expected August 20, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was kind of dissapointed in this book. I thought it would have more exciting things to make in it than what it did. I also thought more cake would be featured instead of so many cupcakes and minicakes. I guess if you're just starting out, you may like it, but I thought it would be better.
The Confetti Cakes Cookbook August 10, 2008 I think there are some lovely things in this book. I think that most decorators could benefit from having it. I am an experienced decorator (30 years) and a cake decorating teacher. The instructions are nice.
Confetti Cakes August 8, 2008 The Confetti Cakes Cookbook: Spectacular Cookies, Cakes, and Cupcakes from New York City's Famed Bakery This fun cake decorating instruction and cookbook gives detailed techniques and recipes for making the projects shown in the book. The full page colored pictures are beautiful to look at. I think anyone with some experience in cake decorating would enjoy this book.
Beautiful book! August 1, 2008 I love this book! When I buy decorating cake books I buy them for the decorating aspect of it not the recipes, so I gave it 5 stars. She gives clear instructions on decorating and assembling the cakes. I can't wait for her next one to come out!
Spectacular Disappointment June 30, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Apparently, the entire budget for this book was spent on photography and food styling. It is absolutely beautiful to look at, and Elissa Strauss' creativity is awe-inspiring. But do not waste your time nor ingredients with her cake recipes! I decided to try her "heavenly chocolate cake" for my first effort in the book. She says it is her most requested cake, so I figured it had to be good. What a disaster! She instructs you to bake 9 inch cake pans for one hour at 350 degrees. If you do you'll end up with charcoal. It would have been nice if there had been an editor involved with a book this beautiful. What a waste. What a disappointment!
