5 out of 5 stars Most awesome cookbook ever.   October 26, 2007

I loved Vegan With a Vengence for a long time. Isa's food ideas and recipes always work out so well and it was a great book with tons of personality.

Now there is Veganomicon that she did with Terry Hope Romero. (same person she wrote the cupcake book with) The food is of the same high quality that is full of yummy flavor but it's freaking huge.

Also, it's well organized. Every recipe gets little symbols, that are explained, so you can immediately tell if a recipe is quick to make, gluten free, low fat and some more things like that. Of course the chapters are well defined and there are several indexes for anything you'd need so you wouldn't have any trouble finding anything in this vegan cookbook that you wish to find.

Everyone should have this book it's a vegan cookbook but it's just good food.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for vegans and foodies   October 25, 2007

I just got my copy of Veganomicon yesterday after patiently waiting a few months for it to come out. I just finished reading it cover to cover and I am so excited to try Isa and Terry's new recipes. My much-used and battered copy of their first cookbook, Vegan with a Vengeance has been used several times a week over the past year.

First off, I love their approach to vegan cooking: they demystify the assumption that it is weird, expensive and inaccessible. Most people think that beans and vegetables are gross and tasteless and this is because they've never had them prepared properly - this cookbook shows you how to do so. Second, don't expect this cookbook to go on and on about why you shouldnt eat meat - this is all about food and how to enjoy a vegan diet and sharing your love of food with others. I shared many of Isa and Terry's dishes from Vegan with a Vengeance with others who have loved them and have asked for the recipes. I bring these dishes to work for lunch and people who don't even know my name ask what it is, it smells so good, could they have the recipe?

This cookbook contains laugh out loud commentary by the authors. They provide the framework for cooking and their recipes allow you branch out and experiment on your own. The writing style is approachable and easy to read and follow.

Lastly, on a personal note, Isa and Terry's recipes have transformed me from a mad vegan who thought she had to sacrifice taste by eating plain lentils and oatmeal to be in accordance with her vegan beliefs. I now possess an endless collection of recipes that include chickpea cutlets, seitan pot pie, marinated tofu, roasted vegetables and quiches... and I am known at work, in my circle of friends and within my family as the girl who always makes awesome food!

This cookbook will transform the way you select, buy, prepare and enjoy food - get Vegan with a Vengeance as well!

5 out of 5 stars An essential for new and old vegans, their allies and the plain ol' curious...   October 25, 2007

Isa's and Terry's recipes are 100% solid. I can't say the same for any other cookbook authors represented in my library. The Veganomicon is a bible of sorts, full of great tips for the newbie cook and inspiration for the seasoned chef. My favorite recipe: The Brooklyn Deli Macaroni Salad. Just like what I remember the kosher deli by my childhood home serving, but now cruelty-free!

5 out of 5 stars Best Vegan Cookbook in the UNIVERSE   October 25, 2007

This really is the ultimate vegan cookbook. Everything you could possible need in one gorgeous book. On of my favorite things about this book is the layout. All the appetizers, breakfast foods, soups, pastas, breads, sandwiches, desserts, and sauces have their own sections making it super easy to find the kind of dish your looking for.
As someone who just started cooking I really liked the beginning section on how to cook grains, beans and vegetables. It really takes the book from your average cookbook to something way more useful. They give you the knowledge to cook amazing, delicious meals, even going as far as to add menus of suggested food combos.

This book is full of the best vegan food under the sun. So do yourself a favor and pick up a copy, you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Just An Amazing Cookbook. Thanks Isa and Terry!   October 25, 2007

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. As a married mother of three finding Vegan recipes the whole family will love can be a challenge. Not anymore! With choices that range from Almost All American Pot Pie to Penne Vodka, you would be hard pressed to not be able to find things everyone will like. The ingredient instructions and how to sections in the front of the book are perfect for my Vegan teen who is just beginning to branch out from making the random desert (thanks to Vegan with a Vengeance and Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World)into cooking "real food". The chatty and suportive tone makes it feel like your best friends have just come over to help you learn to make awesome food. The Icons make it easy to meal plan or find things to accomodate friends with allergies. I really like the mix and match section too for throwing together meals based on a big household's competing favorite ingredients and flavors. Do yourself a favor and buy this book.
