Truly enjoyable novel - I loved every moment with Jackie and Valerie November 19, 2005 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
And really enjoyed Carla & BJ (Would love to read more about BJ - in fact, I would love to read a collection short story sequels of this authors novels - that would be delightful). The story was unique and had the characters in intense as well humorous as well as sexy situations. The characters are truly likable and human (Collin was a bit of a cartoon but guess that is intentional). The writing is wonderful and story addictive. This was a real pager turner and I read it in one sitting. Even the last page was delicious.
My emotions were so strong for Jackie, life had thrown her some cruel blows and she took them all with grace and dignity. I liked it that she had such great friends who cared so deeply for her. And I especially liked how captivated Valerie was with Jackie and pursued her goal with determination that I admired. The romance was delectably sexy and never gratuitous. in fact i found the number of romantic interludes limited (although totally hot) considering the theme of the story.
This was a wonderful story to read by the fire or on a hammock in the sun.
Don't miss this book!
A Moment's Indiscretion May 26, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Last night I stayed up until I read the final page. "A moments indiscretion by Peggy J. Herring is not only well written and all the words are spelled correctly lol, it capured my heart and for several wonderful hours I lost myself inside of the lives of Jackie & Valerie, Carla & BJ and Collin & Ben. I fell right into there lives and lived it with them. What a welcome relief from life. Laughing and crying right along with them. Learning to love again is what alot of us need to read. with hot romantic scenes. I would highly recommend anyone with a loving heart and soul to read this wonderful book.
Why can't I choose 6 stars??? April 22, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Some of the other reviewers suggest this story is a little far fetched. I might be inclined to agree, but it's a fictional romance and I don't mind -- they're supposed to be like that. Jackie lives in a decrepit house she wants to sell, can't keep a girlfriend, and loves her demanding job. After a party at her home, she meets a woman (D.J.) who falls for her best friend (Carla) and agrees to fix up the house in exchange for a place to stay. One of D.J.'s friends (Valerie) is hired at Jackie's office to help out. Val lets Jackie know she's interested, but Jackie doesn't date coworkers (or anyone for that matter). Valerie's only choice is to quit the job so Jackie doesn't have any excuses. Jackie reluctantly agrees to a date and that starts things moving in the right direction.
After Jackie admits she's fallen in love, she discovers Valerie has a husband. What a shock to her heart! It seems she's surrounded by lies and deception, but Valerie won't let her get away.
This storyline is original, enjoyable, and intense. The relationship is complicated (aren't they all...) and the sex is hot. It certainly follows the storyteller's golden rule (every story must have a happy ending) and keeps the reader's attention. Highly recommended for those who want a pleasant and tantalizaing momentary escape from reality.
Good not Great...It's all relative. March 7, 2004 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This book doesn't have a lot of content, but what is there is mostly good. For me, I found a handfull of great images and pages that justified me keeping the book. It is all relative, and though it isn't a great book per say, it is still better that most of what is out there. I have found that most minimalist interiors are too bland and monochromatic for my taste. This book offers very sleek, updated minimalism, with precisely placed splashes of color, that breath life into the old stagnant minimalist approach.
Some great looks, product catalogue feel October 21, 2003 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
Well laid out and some great ideas on how to incorporate color in a minimalist look. Drawback - most of the items are new and there's a helpful list of where to buy them - suggesting this is little more than a catalogue of things for sale. Many of the pictures are STRAIGHT out of the relevant manufacturer's brochure - for example see the Charles sofa by B & B on the classic black floor. You can get all these pictures for free from the relevant companies. Would have been nice to see pieces that looks great but that perhaps aren't available or suggestions of things you can make or adapt yourself to achieve the same look. Overall my feeling was this is a product catalogue sold as a book. I'd suggest looking at it in a bookstore and sending off for the catalogues of the furniture you like.. for free..the text isn't that helpful. Still a beautiful book to look at and it's nice to have everything in one place.
