A disappointment July 15, 2008 Cordy and Leona meet because their fathers become bandits and rob trains together. Eventually, bad luck hits the trio of bandits (Cordy's father, Leona's father and his brother--Leona's uncle) and they attempt to rob a train with U.S. marshals as passengers. They get caught and end up in jail where two of them die from beatings and subsequent poor health. Meanwhile, Leona is left at the ranch and faces having to raise her four younger bothers. The disappointment comes when more than half way through the book, it is not Leona and Cordy who start a romance. Leona has a romance with one of Cordy's lovers. It's with Maria (who at the time of being Cordy's lover is married to an abusive husband) that Leona has a romance and is eventually paired with. This transition was not smooth and seemed unrealistic to me, even if this is fiction. And the resolution to Cordy's role left me even more unsatisfied.
Forbidden love June 29, 2008 I love a good romp in the wild west. The setting in the 1800's along with a wonder plot filled with interesting characters and loves stuggles. Distant thunder is a remarkable story as tender as it is tough. Distant thunder paints a beautiful landscape literally as always Peggy J. Herring has created a wonderful story of adventure and love.

Fresh and fun is how I'd describe this "western" tale of lesbian action, lust and love. I think Herring hit on a winning combination!

i loved the family dynamics in this story. the day to day chores and how the family dealt with each new problem was fun to follow. please tell me there is a follow up story dealing with cordy and esse. what happens with leo and maria? do they really get into raising and selling horses?

I enjoy Peggy Herring's writing. I think this is her first western and it was very good. I was heart broke about Cordy and Leo, but the plot thickens and all the pieces fell into place. What happens with Cordy and Jake's daughter???? It's about family, understanding, teamwork and love.
