Incomplete Nutritional Information November 26, 2005 78 out of 84 found this review helpful
The authors have the nutritional values calculated for as many as 20 servings yet fail to provide the serving sizes. They have to figure out the size of a serving to calculate the information, so why not include that with the recipe so we, who must count our carbohydrates for insulin purposes for example, don't have to dirty dishes to dish out the entire crock pot. There are authors out there who care enough about their readers to provide this information.
Delicious recipes whether diabetic or not June 25, 2005 104 out of 104 found this review helpful
Counting carbohydrates and working through food exchanges in order to deal with diabetes can be a time consuming activity, especially for the busy working person. This book contains slow-cooker recipes complete with exchange list values, and information on fat, calories, cholesterol, fiber, sugars, protein, and just about anything else you would want to know in order to prepare a nutritious meal that takes minimal time out of your busy schedule. Casseroles, steak, stews, vegetables, chicken, potatoes, wings, barbecue, soups, chowders, desserts, snacks, and beverages are all well represented with an excellent selection of each as well as many more items. One thing is for sure, these recipes don't sacrifice flavor in any way. The recipes include recipes like Chicken in Mushroom Gravy, Lemon-Garlic Chicken, Potatoes O'Brien, Apple Crisp, and Carrot Cake. Fix-It and Forget-It Diabetic Cookbook is an excellent cookbook not only for diabetics but for slow cooker fans of all types.
I Love This Cook Book May 21, 2005 112 out of 112 found this review helpful
I always enjoy reviewing a cookbook, but when I come across one as outstanding as this one is the joy is doubled. Author Phyllis Pellman Good, with The American Diabetes Association, has compiled a book filled with recipes for diabetics that you make in a slow cooker. Yes, you read that correct, what a great idea for use in our busy lives. Let me tell you this is no small work, but is absolutely packed full of page after page of wonderful recipes to plop in your slow cooker, walk away and come back to a delicious meal or desert. Yes, again you heard me correct, there are page after page of deserts that you can make in your slow cooker and all will be loved, not only by those with diabetes, but the entire family. From main dishes to deserts, this book brings the entire family together with recipes that allow you to easily make an entire meal that can be eaten by every member of the family. I cannot recommend this book highly enough; this is definitely one that should be in every home. Healthy for every member of the family and delicious too, how can you beat that? Outstanding work.
