1 out of 5 stars Sincere, but misleading...   April 23, 2001

I am going to save a lot of time here and agree with what Rod had to say about this book. This is a very sincere & thought provoking book, but there is no mention of Matthew 10:37. Since this verse is omitted, it leads the reader to believe that Jesus did not mean "hating all things in comparison to loving Him" Jesus DID MEAN by comparison. It's plain as day in MT 10:37, while Tim said Jesus DID NOT mean by comparison. That truly bothers me as to why Tim would say this.

1 out of 5 stars Where's Matthew 10:37 ???   February 7, 2001

"And those who err in mind will know the truth, and those who criticize will accept instruction." Is 29:29

"He is on the path of life who heeds instruction, but he who forsakes reproof goes astray." Pro 10:17

"Who can discern his errors? Aquit me of hidden faults." Ps 19:12

I come to voice my concerns about an error in teaching that I discovered within the pages of "Hating For Jesus".

"Hating For Jesus" pg 24

Quoting the author, Tim Williams- "We know that when Jesus said we must hate that He did not mean by COMPARISON. Such definitions MAKE NO SENSE."

This indeed made no sense to Tim, for he was leaning upon his own understanding... stating that Jesus COULD NOT have meant by comparison.

"Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become foolish that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God..." 1 Cor 3:18,19a

"Trust in The Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." Pr 3:5

Tim CAN NOT formulate his own view of scripture just because it "makes no sense" to him! Tim then goes on to draw upon worldly comparisons, suggesting that Jesus IN NO WAY meant, "You are to love Me MORE THAN ALL!" If Tim were to come to this conclusion, then it would destroy his premise for this ungodly book. Now, let's take a CLOSE look at what JESUS says in Matthew 10:37, in which Tim *STRAYED* away from--

"He who loves father or mother MORE THAN ME is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter MORE THAN ME is not worthy of Me."

I know that Tim is NOT DUMB... Why would he twist scripture to say what he wanted his itching ears to hear? Why did he say that Jesus DID NOT mean "MORE THAN ME", when it is CLEARLY written??? May your eyes be opened to the deceitfulness contained within the pages of "Hating For Jesus"!!!

5 out of 5 stars My Life Has Changed   July 1, 2000

This book was only one of the ways God was trying to get through to me. After living in horrible sin every second of my life, yet knowing there was more to life than what I was doing, I finally shut up and listened to God. Reading this book put things into a changing motion. I realized that "loving" my life and everyone in it, was not glorifying God. I needed to hate the fact that my flesh wanted to love them, and if I hated my family, everything in my life, and even myself, then I could humble myself like I never had before. Then ond only then could God work in me the love from Him. My life has changed beyond belief, and I give all praises to the Lord. He continues to work miracles everyday. Reading "Hating For Jesus" gets to the point and shows us what we need to do in order to grow in a relationship with Him. I challenge everyone and anyone to read this book, and to finally let God tell you what He has been trying.

1 out of 5 stars someone else who cares   April 12, 2000

This is a book I would not recommend anyone read. It is full of exactly what its title says--hatred. We are called to love one another and if we do not, the Bible says we do not love God, we are murderers, and we dwell in darkness(1 John 4:20, 1 John 3:15, 1 John 1:9-11) God hates sin. He loves all people but hates the sin in their lives. This book teaches to hate people. It's foundation is built on one scripture--Luke 14:26 which is one of the parables of Jesus. We see in the Scriptures that Jesus often spoke in parables not to be taken literally but to be discerned by the Holy Spirit Who dwells within us. There were times that Jesus would question why His own disciples did not understand what He was trying to say. Was it because they were looking at the surface instead of the deeper meaning? Yes.

In my opinion this book presents a judgemental and critical view of people, Church, and God. I mean the whole message of Jesus Christ is love because God is love. Its claim that we must hate in order to love is unfounded(I John 3:15). The Bible is more full of the message of love(John 15:12-13, Galatians 5:22, Romans 13:8). I can only pray that the Spirit of truth would come over all who read this and show it for what it is. A doctrine can not be based on one scripture alone, that is taken out of context. I will continue to pray that anyone that reads this book will cling to God who is love and is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
