Would not recommend current edition! August 31, 2001

I used the CLEP SUCCESS 2001 study guide to prepare for CLEP general mathematics and English exams this summer. I also simultaneously used study guides from Princeton Review (Cracking the CLEP) and COMEX. I was very disappointed in the CLEP SUCCESS 2001 guide after comparing it to the guides from other publishers and the actual tests. In my opinion, CLEP SUCCESS 2001:
- Overemphasized some topics and underemphasized others.
- Presented background knowledge and sample tests which were much more difficult than the real test.
- Gave weak explanations to sample test answers.
- Contained a number of frustrating errors in the written sample test.
I definitely encourage people to prepare for a CLEP by reviewing several different study guides. Unfortunately, I could not promote the current edition of CLEP SUCCESS 2001. It caused me frustration and extra hours of unnecessary study.
By the way, I passed the CLEP general mathematics, general English, and college algebra exams. The Princeton Review and COMEX publications were very effective.
