Great, idiot proof book July 9, 2008 I love that this book is idiot proof. It gives a good background on allergies, appropriate ages to introduce foods (I'd still check what your doctor says), the materials you'll need to make the food and the advantages of each type of equipment etc. If you're the type of mom who is ambitious about making your baby food but can just barely boil water, you'll still be fine with this book because she really walks you through it. The meal plans were also very helpful to me in working out what to give my baby when and how exactly to introduce solids. The recipes are nice and varied but simple. I absolutely recommend this book.
healthy feeding June 5, 2008 The recipes are easy and I know what's going into my son's body - aside from the stuff he randomly finds on the floor :) I find making my own food to be alot easier than I had expected. Fresh food is always better than processed.
The Best Gift I Could Give My Children May 28, 2008 The Healthy Baby Meal Planner by Annabel Karmel is fantastic. I ordered this book while living in Germany. I could only find books written in German but was able to buy this from Amazon.com in english. I was so excited to have this book as a guideline and meal planner. The best of all, my girls just loved the food I cooked and I still use some of the recipes. If you want to save money on your food bills and get away from store bought jars, this book is for you. My girls experienced a wide variety of fresh foods and to this day they are always willing to try something new because they where offered new things to eat. This book allowed me to be creative in my kitchen. It is a must for a new Mom. Now I am excited to buy one for my Niece and her new son.
Great guidelines and recipes April 23, 2008 If you are looking for a guide to starting your baby on freshly prepared home-made foods, this is it. There is a nice introduction with information on all kinds of concerns and thoughts (i.e. allergies, milks, sensitivities, etc.). The author spends some time describing the process of introducing foods to Baby and takes you through to toddler stages. And, I really appreciated that it wasn't overly complicated or detailed - it has all the basics that you need and a LOT of recipes. She even gives "recipes" for the very first meals (how to steam/cook one-two ingredient purees). I love this book, it has been very helpful, and I plan on buying it for other new moms who want to make their own baby food.
The best gift for any mother! February 5, 2008 I have an older copy of this book from 1992 and even though my youngest is 6, I'm still using the recipes as they've become family favourites! I've used this book to make baby food from scratch for all of my children (oldest is now 10) and love how clearly it's laid out, with really easy to follow directions, and great advice and information to guide you. You don't need lots of expensive equipment to make your own baby food, and the benefits to your baby are enormous, not to mention the money you will save. My children all eat salads, home made soups and whole wheat breads, and all kinds of fruits and veggies that most of their friends turn their noses up at! I highly recommend this book for anyone, at any skill level in the kitchen, who wants to start their baby off with a healthy nutritious diet.
