5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT! REALLY EXCELLENT!!!   January 10, 2006

My friend's daughter requested this on her bridal registry so I got it for her for her shower. She started using it immediately and everyone started raving about her cooking. She was a new cook. Soon everyone around started buying it for the new brides and when the raves kept coming in, all us older ladies started buying it for ourselves. I have since purchased it for other gifts and it still thrills.

The book is geared to a bride and groom cooking together and is a bit tacky for us older, one cook kitchen people. Once past that, you'll keep going back to it for all those special treats. These are recipes that HAVE TASTE and will WOW your guests (and you too.) There will be many favorites from the recipes included. Lots of colorful pictures that entice you to prepare them and easy to follow recipes.

A couple of my favorite recipes are the Goat Cheese, Sun-Dried Tomato, and Pesto Torta and the Warm Artichoke and Green Onion Dip. They sound gourmet and are but they are really easy with readily availabe ingredients. There are many basic recipes and some creative ones.

This is one of the 2 cookbooks I grab first when I need to make something for a party or just want to treat myself. It's a must have and one I highly recommend. A must for the new bride and for you.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!   October 6, 2005

I loved this cookbook! It gives a lot of creative ideas for unique dishes, and the menus for holidays and special days really do a fantastic job of pairing foods suited for celebrations. I also liked the ideas for different types of foods to put in your pantry to inspire cooking different types of foods, and the cocktails section. Some of the foods may be TOO "unique", but you can always adjust them to suit your tastes and the ingridients you have on hand. I'd def. recommend this book for the engaged, newly married, or those that are looking for new ways to make traditions in the kitchen.

I received this cookbook as a wedding gift and I absolutely LOVE it! I loved it so much that I have already given a copy as a wedding gift to a friend.

The chicken pot-pie is so simple and absolutely delicious! The pork with blackberry sauce and mango salsa has quickly become my new standby when I am entertaining. It is extremely easy to prepare and has a very elegant presentation.

One of the benefits of this cookbook is that it gives detailed instructions on some of the more basic cooking techniques such as roasting asparagus. I have tried maybe a dozen recipes so far and the only one that I have been disappointed with is the Balsamic Vinegrette (too much oil). I am looking forward to working my way through the rest of the cookbook!

5 out of 5 stars I can't get enough of this cookbook!   June 7, 2005

I received this cookbook as a wedding shower gift last summer and have already used it more than any of the other cookbooks I own. I love cooking and have a ton of cookbooks and this is by far my favorite. While many cookbooks have a lot of recipes I like and several others I don't; I can honestly say I like almost every recipe in this book and have already tried most of them. I am a pretty experienced cook, but I feel this book is good for cooks ranging from novice to more advanced. Many of the recipes are for different, sometimes more gourmet fare, but they do an excellent job of explaining in detail how to do the harder to do tasks. They also have recipes for timeless favorites such as meatloaf, chocolate chip cookies, mac and cheese, and an amazing Caesar dressing. The Vanilla Cheesecake is awesome as well! They also have a glossary of cooking terms and ingredients for those that you may not have heard of before. Everything I've made in here has received rave reviews and already many of my favorite repeat recipes are from this book. This is also a great cookbook to just read through because the pictures are beautiful and they tell stories before each recipe about how they created it or why they like it. They also tell what other recipes go well with each dish, how to use the leftovers and how much in advance you can make the dish or how long it keeps for future use. This is going to become a staple wedding or shower gift for me when giving to brides who enjoy cooking.

4 out of 5 stars For a more intimate present, you may want to try . . .   May 18, 2005

I am an avid, but amateur chef and am getting married in Fall 05. I've looked at a number of bride-groom cookbooks. So far, my favorite is NOT ON LOVE ALONE by Jessie Carry Saunders. It has a friendlier, more intimate tone than any of the others -- it feels like something written by a bride for other brides.

It has a friendly, appealing feel, like the author is in the kitchen with you, telling you stories about the recipes as she teaches you how to make them. Also, it's just a higher quality book -- it's a hard cover, the pages are nice and thick, and the watercolor illustrations on every page make the book seem like something you could display on your coffee table as easily as you could use it in the kitchen.

If you want a good cookbook, any of the various newlywed cookbooks will work fine. If you want an excellent present for a wedding or a bridal shower, my recommendation is NOT ON LOVE ALONE.
