5 out of 5 stars Worth the read.   September 13, 2007

I enjoyed reading, "Love's Harvest" by Peggy J. Herring. It is worth the read. It is about a workaholic,"Nicole". Nicole and Camile meet at a party that neither wanted to go to. Nicole owns a winery, and most of the conflict in the story is about how she deals with her stress related to the winery and her brother. The story flows well. There are not any places where the story is slow, where you think I'd like for them to get on with it. The character Eva gives the book a slight sci-fi/
supernatural quality that I enjoyed. The author helps the reader believe in Eva along with Camile. I found the ending to be both clever and humorous, something I have not found in many books. I hope I made this review helpful, short, and to the point. I sometimes find myself getting bored with the long winded reviews and end up just looking at how many stars a book has been given, which is something one might want to do if one does not have the time to linger.

3 out of 5 stars Herring has Come a Long Way...   June 6, 2006

It wasn't until after I read this book that I realized it is one of Herring's earlier publications. The story idea itself is very good. However, 'Love's Harvest' is missing many of the elements that have made Herring one of the best lesbian authors of our time.

To elaborate, the first thing missing is the detailed, tense, sexual scenes so characteristic of her writing. It's almost a "fade to next scene" kind of approach in this book. It's not that these scenes are necessary to make her books good, but she's a master at portraying them. Thank goodness she's become more adventurous in her more recent books.

The second thing sorely missing is good closure for the story. Herring is generally masterful at wrapping up all the loose ends in an eloquent fashion. Here, the story seems to end too abruptly, almost leaving the reader hanging and asking "what the heck?"

'Love's Harvest' is not the best book in her offering, but still a Herring novel worth reading.

4 out of 5 stars Obvious earlier book   November 11, 2001

This book is obviously one of Herring's first. It shows the typical lack of character development and choppiness that occurs with first books. There are a number of holes in the story that should have been filled in. Herring's later books show her growth as an author. Having said that, this is still a good story, though a little stilted. You have to wonder how much Herring really knows about lesbians in France and the wine business. Anyway, the characters are appealing and the romance is very erotic. Well worth the read.

Love's Harvest is written with suspence in more than one occation. Nichole is an hier to the world famous Jeton vinyards in France. Camille is a dedicated journalist in Paris. Both of these women are very engrossed in their work leaving little time for their personal lives. With the help of a friend the two meet and fall in love instantly, but the obstacals that determine their destiny together are many. Will the love they've found in eachother be enough to prevail, with a ghost roaming the halls and rooms of the infamous cha^teau? Once agian Herring displays beautiful and luscious love making between to women. Couldn't put it down. It's a must read.
