Good, tasty, easy stuff...Ellie rocks February 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Even before I bought this book, I had been enjoying Ellie's show and I had made a few of her recipes from the Food Network site. The Green Bean Salad with mustard-based dressing, walnuts and red onions is good year round as a side dish to any entree or sandwich. My husband asks for the Triple Chocolate Cookies all the time...I know that recipe by heart. When I'm craving Blue Cheese Dressing, I make the one from the episode with the Buffalo Chicken Salad. I also really like that she uses normal ingredients in her recipes. The writing style of the book is low-key yet upbeat. She doesn't hammer you over the head with anything and just provides clear directions for tasty food. Thanks, Ellie!
healthy and delicious February 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent. Healthy and easy. Everything has been quick and delicious. Smaller number of portions makes the recipes reasonable for a small family and they are easy to divide. The servings sizes are more than adequate. Nutritional info is provided with each recipe.
healthy and tasty dishes, but layout could be better February 26, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I found some dishes that look very mouth watering(yet healthy), so I really am glad I found this book. Every recipe includes the much appreciated 'per serving' nutritional facts and 'excellent sources of list of vitamins and minerals'. The reasons I didn't give it a higher rating is because: 1. Fonts are small, even though there's plenty of margin on top and bottom. The directions run together like ants. PLease, since there is space, give my eyes a break! I don't want to miss a line and mess up the dish accidently. 2. No estimation of time given. 3. Not enough photos, but the ones that are there are great.
Awesome!!! February 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Finally, someone came up with a healthy cookbook that doesn't use exotic ingredients and recipes that take hours to prepare! I love this cookbook!!! Every recipe that I have tried from the book has been loved not only by me but by my husband who is really not into "health-food". He loves the recipes so much that he made the "Carrot cake cupcakes with lemon cream cheese icing" for dessert last night. The "Baked shrimp with tomato and feta" is so incredibly easy to prepare and tastes wonderful. All of these recipes are tailored for working people and can be prepared quickly and with regular ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. The portion sizes are realistic and the low calories, but great flavor make it a breeze to eat healthy. I would recommend this book to anyone who is trying to eat better and is not willing to sacrifice taste in the quest for health.
Just like her tv show February 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was very excited to receive Ellie's book as I like her tv show. The cookbook does not disappoint in any way. The photographs are a good respresentation of the food and Ellie gives advice on almost every page about eating healthy at every meal. Her Shrimp and Artichoke Pasta is espcecially good. This book would also make a great gift.
