5 out of 5 stars I want to read all Gloria Copeland books   May 26, 2008

This is now my second Gloria Copeland book which is another excellent read. I have enjoyed listening to Gloria Copeland for years, and years speak on T.V. and never inquired until recently into books that she has written. I usually only like a few authors, now Gloria Copeland is another one I can add to my list of good reads. I like when an author is consistent like Joyce Meyers and you can read all their material, Gloria Copleland is consistant in the quality of work she writes which keeps me coming back for more. Her books are good for the masses, she tells it like it is, she tells you what specifically you need to do to accomplish the job at hand. I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to know Him (God).

1 out of 5 stars Before Gloria tries to instruct others she needs to know Jesus   May 29, 2007

The chief aim of this woman and her husband is to instill in their followers a desire for material wealth. In order to deceive their followers and in their attempts to satisfy their never-ending lust for wealth, they teach their sheep to plant 'seed faith' money into their co-called ministry. Ignoring the simplicity of faith (trust in God) they claim that sending them money is a demonstration of your faith. Supposedly, sending them money will 'release' your faith. Neat how that works.

In order to justify their wicked behavior, the Copeland's teach that Christian's are commanded by God to 'tithe'. In the Old Testament tithing was the Jewish practice of bringing a tenth of the crops, cattle, etc. to the temple in order to support the Levites (who received no allocation of land to grow crops), the foreigners, and widows and orphans (Deut. 14:28 & 29). Jesus, born under the law, came to fulfil the Torah (Old Testament Law) which had been a temporary measure to imprison the Jews under sin (Gal. 3:23-29). Christians have never lived under the law, nor should they desire to do so. Search the New Testament to see if Christians are EVER encouraged to tithe. They are NOT.

Nevertheless, the Copelands teach this false doctrine in order to enrich themselves, despite the constant warnings in the Bible regarding the desire for wealth and the decietfulness of riches. Have you seen the Copelands new 20 million dollar X-10 Jet? Please ask yourselves this question: is the lifestyle of the Copeland's lead or is their teaching consistent with the example Jesus lived or with his demand that we take up our crosses daily and follow him? The Copeland's are the modern Pharisees who rob widow's houses. I would venture to guess that the majority of their income is from homebound widows who live on a fixed income, the most desperate of our society. Please don't buy into their lies.

It's an amazing book with so much info. about God's Word. Gloria Copeland helps make the Word of God so easy to understand. It is so freeing.

3 out of 5 stars Fair At Best   February 8, 2006

I must admit that this is my first experience reading anything by Gloria Copeland, but if her other books are similar to this one I won't be a dedicated reader. I received this book as a Christmas present and was extremely excited to read the book based on the book description. Unfortunately I had a very tough time reading all the way through without quitting and picking something else to read.

This book is not what I call a "grabber," in that I struggled to stay the course and read it in its entirety. I am an avid reader, and it is rare that I have such problems getting interested in a book. It's difficult to pinpoint one specific item of the book that turned me off so much. The book starts off fairly slowly, but one expects for it to pick up as you continue to read through. Not so for this book, and by the time I finished I felt relieved to be able to put it on my shelf.

The author uses examples in an attempt to expound on the points she is making, but those examples are so un-relatable to the average person's life that it seemed too over-the-top. One of the examples she uses is in reference to a time when she was $6 million in debt. I feel fairly confident when I say that the majority of people reading this book aren't ever going to experience that kind of debt. While it's fine to use that as an example, she shouldn't have stopped there. She needed to give an example that relates to the majority of people reading the book. Furthermore, most of the examples came from her own life. I was disappointed that she did not draw from the wealth of examples from other people that she knows. The best books in this genre that I have read all use examples from a variety of different people's lives in an effort to relate to the array of readers.

Also, I found it difficult to continue reading through a book of 200+ pages when I could have summed up the basic points in about three chapters. While I'm not bothered that none of her ideas were new or innovative, I was at least hoping for a new spin on them or a different way of striving to develop my relationship with Christ.

Basically, I felt as though the book dragged on for longer than necessary. While I wouldn't attempt to dissuade someone from reading this book if they truly wanted to, I certainly wouldn't list it as one I'd ever recommend to people.
