Hungry Girl keeps me feeling full! May 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After reading some very good Hungry Girl articles on Yahoo, I was intrigued; here was someone dishing out ORIGINAL ideas that I have not heard of (amazing, since I'm perpetually watching what I eat).
When I saw she had a book, I bought it immediately and took two of my guy friends on a grocery trip so that I could buy all the ingredients I needed. It was a little more expensive than I would have liked... I paid more than I would have liked for what I estimate is 3 weeks of food for one person. But, to be fair, a portion of the supplies were things that would last a long time, like healthier-choice condiments, spices, bake-ware... things that a kitchen-nervous, frozen food aficionado like me didn't have on hand.
I made a meal of "perfect pepperoni pizzas" and my guy friends actually liked them! I was full for the whole night after eating them. This morning I had a breakfast burrito (without the cheese) which was about 175 calories and some skim milk (80 calories), and I was full until lunch, even when it was a late lunch!
I'm so excited to try out all the recipes! This is coming from someone who can barely find her way around her own kitchen, so it's definitely accessible to nervous cooks like myself. There are so many awesome secrets in the book, even for a seasoned dieter like myself. I use an online calorie counter to input my calories, and I can already tell that my fiber is going up and my fat intake is going down because of Hungry Girl's meals.
If you're looking for the usual "lemon chicken with steamed vegetables" recipes, then this book is NOT for you. If you're looking for a way to guiltlessly enjoy jalapeno poppers, a way to impress guests with healthy, delicious snacks, a way to really ENJOY watching what you eat, then this is the the book for you!
I LOVE hungry-girl.com May 2, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great cookbook which incorporates many of the recipes, ideas, etc. from the [...] website. This is a must for people trying to eat a healthy, low-fat, low calorie, high fiber diet. Highly recommended!
Love it! May 2, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great recipes that make the junk food healthy! The only sad part about the book is that she couldn't print the WW points, but she does give the nutritional values.
Supertastic!!!! May 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I heart this book! Lisa has literally saved my life! I am no chef by any means and I love that all of the recipes in this book not only taste great, they are also easy to make. Let's face it, most people are overweight because it is more convenient to stop by and pick up a couple of burgers on the way home than it is to go home and prepare a meal. That was before "Hungry Girl" came to the rescue! As an added bonus, my family will also eat most of these recipes!WOOOHOOO!!!! I am already pining away for the next book!
Easy to follow May 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is so easy to read and for someone who's shy about cooking directions are easy to follow. Recipes are great!
