Make me a satisfied girl May 19, 2008 Lisa definitely has a great gig going-thousands of tips and recipies that help us girls eat fewer calories while still getting full. The recipies are simple and quick which is nice in a hectic lifestyle and most look really tasty.
One beef- HG promotes foods pretty much based solely on calorie intake (though she does look out for fat and carb/protein numbers). She doesn't stress a healthy diet per se, which would give all the needed vitamins and amino and fatty acids. When you focus on healthy food, you'll get the fewer calories along with the package, but the opposite isn't always true.
Luv this recipe book !!! May 16, 2008 I heard about the HG site and the daily emails, from the weight Watchers message board. I Love and look fwd to getting the daily HG msgs, recipes, hints, many many things and all so helpful, fresh, Cheerful and interesting ! So, really wanted this book and it exceeds my espectations !! Wow !!! thanks so much Lisa !! It is so nice to have someth like this in the "weight loss journey" and then, once we reach goal to help us stay there. I have many WW recipe books, etc, but this is already, BY FAR, my fav !!!
Fantastic Cookbook May 16, 2008 I'm pretty much a food lover -- and have always said that I workout SO THAT I can eat. :) This cookbook is fantastic -- high quantities of great tasting foods that are low calorie, filling, and incredibly simple.
I've tried a few recipes thus far, and I'm pretty sure I'll soon crown this as my favorite diet cookbook. Ever.
Incredible!!! May 14, 2008 This book is amazing. So far I have tried the chicken strips and they were awesome. Check out her website. She has a ton of recipes on there too! I've tried the double chocolate chip frappachino from starbucks and it was great. Her taco bell recipes were wonderful too!
Mixed review, but still recommend May 13, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Of the four recipes that I've tried so far, I've enjoyed the ones that don't rely so much on fat-free products. The chopped buffalo salad was spicy, delicious, and quite filling, but I don't think that it tasted just like the industrial-strength version. It was easy to make and I recommend it to anyone who likes spicy food.
I was a little wary of the English muffin pizzas because I used to make those as a kid and never really cared for them. I also have never been crazy about turkey pepperoni. I added some pizza seasoning to the tomato sauce and cooked the pizzas in the oven rather than a toaster oven. I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty these little pizzas turned out - even with the fat-free mozzarella cheese. The turkey pepperoni was crispy and the pizzas (made from one English muffin) satisfied my hunger.
My husband liked the twice-baked potato, but I thought that it tasted strange. The mixture wasn't too cheesy and had an odd taste and consistency. I'm not a big fan of baked potatoes, but if I were to make this recipe again, I might use reduced fat cheese rather than fat-free cheese. And yes, I know that will change the calorie and fat content of the recipe.
The onion ring recipe was very disappointing. While the rings smelled and looked good, they didn't taste as great as the author promised they would. They were dry and sweet-tasting. I've tried other mock onion ring recipes before and have been let down. I think that I will stick to the fried ones in moderation when I do indulge.
One thing that I do like about this recipe book is that it doesn't tout a plan with all kinds of restrictions. I plan to use some of the recipes in this book along with some other resources that I have in my quest to eat healthier.
