Lost in The Reproduction February 29, 2008 I'm in the middle of writing a piece on the blues boom of the '60's and am reading all I can on the principal players. After reading Clapton's auto biography, I ordered two more Clapton books, STRANGE BREW and LOST IN THE BLUES. I discovered to my displeasure that LOST is little more than a reprint of his previous book with a new title and some new pictures. Though the text is breezy it's (still) loaded with factual errors. As a professional musician and historian I'm always leery of musical talks in books like these...there's a lot of rehashing of myths. That would be OK if there were anything like new quotes in the book, which there aren't. At least the ghost- written/edited autobiography had some personal insights into the man himself..precious little on music though. What is the worst thing about LOST is the dark, over-inked photographs, possibly the worst photographic reproductions ever to be offered by a legitimate publishing house. Having spentmany a year as a photographer myself I wonder where quality control was for this project? Who OK'd this mess? I'd love to see these new images reproduced with the care they deserve. I'm almost tempted to give it ONE STAR...maybe ONE AND A HALF...the delightfully obsessive STRANGE BREW is a better buy for my money.Eric Clapton: Lost in the Blues
