4 out of 5 stars Want to Know More about Boats? Read Boating Magazine   May 23, 2007

Boating is a very practical magazine about boats and their care. Issued monthly, this magazine concentrates on boating basics. It advises consumers on the important things to consider when purchasing a boat, the proper routine maintenance for a boat, and the different ways to accessorize to make boating more recreational and more enjoyable than before.

I have been reading Boating for more than a year now and I like it a little better than most other boating publications. Many other boating magazines exist and I happen to read several of them each month. Each seems to have something to offer and they all offer some good, sound advice on boat ownership and care.

Boating Magazine, however, is probably the best in the bunch for education on the subject of boating. In fact, I like to think of this magazine as Boating 101 because its primary goal is to inform. When it isn't testing a new boat and showing the reader the results, it is offering advice on a new gadget. When it isn't offering buying advice, it is helping with boat maintenance and general care. When it isn't offering handyman tips, it is offering advice on seamanship. This is Boating magazine in a nutshell. It wants those who own, operate, or ride as passengers in a boat to know everything there is to know about boats and their proper care. The magazine includes sections every month that are intended to educate readers on everything from seamanship to the most efficient use of fuel.

Because Boating is geared toward education, there is little in this magazine in the way of adventure, and this is one fact that could disappoint some readers. That isn't to say there is no adventure- it just isn't as important in this magazine as education. Where the adventure reading comes into play is usually in one of the featured articles. But even the features tend to be more educational in nature, covering everything from the high price of fuel to advice on navigating small boats in a storm.

Overall, Boating is a very good magazine on this recreational subject and it makes a good supplement to other magazines about boating. I will continue to read other publications because I like the adventure articles. But when I am looking for the facts and want to learn more about boats, Boating Magazine is the publication I turn to. It contains everything you need to know about boats, from the initial purchase all the way to the maintenance and storage.
