Amazon.com Review Several years ago, an article in Wine Spectator magazine noted the importance of a high-quality glass for improving a wine's looks and enhancing its bouquet. However, the magazine lamented, many of the attributes that increase the beauty and value of the glass actually obscure the wine. Spiegelau's Vino Grande series is part of a connoisseur line designed specifically for wine lovers. The thin rim means less distraction from the taste and texture of the wine. Tap the glass gently with your fingernail and you'll hear the distinctive ping of fine crystal. This clear vintage port glass measures 7-1/4 inches high. The glass is evenly proportioned, with stem and bowl approximately the same height. These glasses are billed as being dishwasher-safe and are sturdy enough for everyday use, as proven by their popular use in restaurants. Still, we'd recommend hand washing. --Irene Svete

My best deal on amazon March 31, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had ordered a set of Spiegelau Vino Grande martini glasses back in 2003 from amazon and these came for free due to the promotion. Not only had they arrived in perfect condition, I was so amazed and pleased to witness how something free could be so well-built and aesthetically pleasing. These non-lead crystal German glasses are not only great for Port wine, but also handles Chardonnay, Riesling, blush and etc.
You should be aware of the fact that these are not the over the top fine-crystal Spiegelau glasses; however, they are excellent for everyday use and parties since they are not very thin and hence fragile. They are well blown, defect-free, chic enough for the purpose. Moreover, they have been both hand and machine washed over the past years and the glass has perfectly survived all of it. I wish I could get free stuff like this more often.
As one of the reviewers said, these glasses have molding ridges that are very obvious. I would be frustrated and upset as well, if I had to pay $54 for this set.
beautiful glasses May 7, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The port glasses are lovely. They are delicate enough to make a beautiful sound and to look absolutely elegant, and they are sturdy enough to survive our house.
defective glasses February 25, 2007 My glasses had air bubbles and abnormally shaped blobs of glass where the stems connect to the bowls. They were functional.... but deformed. I sent them back. In addition, molding lines were visible, but not so bad.
Fine Glasses February 22, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
These glasses are excellent for serving port. They are delicate, however and require extreme caution when handwashing them. My set of 6 is now a set of 5. However, they are extremely nice and well priced and I highly recommend this product!
Plastic is better January 3, 2006 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I ordered this set for my Father in Law for Christmas this year. Although they shipped these glasses quickly, they were of the poorest quality I have seen. Each of the rims of these glasses were uneven and one was even chipped! There were very noticeable molding marks on each of the stems as well. When I tried to contact the Wine Enthusiast it took forever just to reach a real person, and when I did she was VERY short with me. I do not suggest this product whatsoever.
