Product Description Protect your hands with the Microplane Grater Attachment Slides snugly & easily over the end of most Microplane 3500 series graters* Slider attachment protects hands and saves time Especially useful grating pebble-sized foods like nuts, small veggies, and chocolate chips Dishwasher safe 3"W x 2-5/8"L. *Not intended for use with 35038 extra coarse grater
Amazon.com Review This attachment slides onto the blades of any grater in Microplane's 35000 series to grate smaller foods. Lift the lid on the attachment's hopper and load it up with ginger, garlic, nuts, or a hunk of cheese. Place the weighted lid back on and push lightly as you slide the attachment back and forth on your grater. The slider grates small foods more quickly while keeping your fingertips safe from the grater's sharp teeth. This attachment is made of polycarbonate plastic and is dishwasher-safe for easier cleaning. --Cristina Vaamonde

A good idea but not all that January 6, 2009 When I bought my coarse microplane I saw this little doo dad next to it and thought, 'cool! something to save my fingers from the sharp blades of the microplane!'
I took them home and tried them out together. You know how to expect a nice fluid grating motion when you grate things? This didn't do it.
It would stick and jerk on with the plastic against plastic. Added on top of that you had to hold the stuff and the lid over the top of it. I was very disappointed and put this away and just used my hand.
Yeah, I have to watch my fingers, but it's much easier to do than with this slider attachement.
A year later it just sits in the cupboard, I think someone finally threw it away.
Save your fingers! March 31, 2008 Buy this item, with the microplane grater (fine or coarse) today! This works so well that you will wonder what took the designers so long to offer this!! No more ruined manicures! I will never use another grater/grating system if I can possibly help it. This is a great design and every kitchen should have one.
Fantastic! July 16, 2007 When my food processor quit working, I replaced it with a set of Microplane graters (the 35000 series). At the time I placed my order, I didn't know about Microplane's professional graters (the 38000 series). However, after using them, I was so impressed that I sent the 35000 series to my daughter and ordered the professional 38000 series for myself.
I do a lot of cooking, so I know these graters are going to get a lot of use. I'm in no mood to buy another food processor, as I rarely used the one I had and food processors take up a lot of valuable kitchen storage space. The Microplane graters, on the other hand, fit neatly inside a drawer and have protective covers on them.
I'm giving the 35000 series graters a 4-star rating only because they don't look like they'll last as long as the professional 38000 series graters. They are, however, very sharp and do an extremely effective job. I especially appreciate the sliding hand guard. I very seriously doubt I'd use a tool as sharp as this without something to protect my hands.
Of very limited usefulness, makes a nice nutmeg grater July 13, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
An avid home cook that is a collector of both cookbooks and cooking gadgets writes this review. I purchased this product because if seemed like a good idea for cheese at the time. In the 6 months that I have had it I have only used it to test it for different applications. I have summarized my observations of this product below:
Pros: 1.Good for grating the end of a large piece of cheese 2.Grate nutmeg (although I use a nutmeg grater) 3.Grate ginger (I find a regular microplane to work more easily and you don't need to cut up your ginger to use it) 4.Use in place of a garlic press 5.Small size means easy to store 6.Completely disassembles and is therefore easy to clean
Cons: 1.Not useful if you have a big hunk of cheese that you don't want to cut down for storage (parmesan) 2.Interior is very, very, very small (approximately 3 tablespoons in size) requires reloading to grate any quantity
Overall the small interior cavity of this device makes it unnecessary in my kitchen. I don't like to cut chunks off my cheese, as I believe it stores better in a block. It will grate small objects without ruining your nails. I had high hopes for this item, but find it of little use. However, this product is a useful add-on if you do not own a nutmeg grater.
Great for Garlic November 21, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can put several cloves in at once, and in 5 seconds they are all totally grated. I do it right over the pot on the stove. The only negative thing is that it leaves slivers ungrated at the end - depending on the dish I just put these into the pan or chop them. It all cleans up in the dishwasher no problem.
