Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Cut thick slices of apple for pies, or veggies for stir fries. Slice potatoes thinly for homemade chips, or cabbage for cole slaw. Shred carrots for salad, or julienne, or cube, or dice. With a helpful set of instructions and three cutters, this machine yields professional looking, uniform results, at great speed and without much work on your part.

Amazon.com Review
An inexpensive alternative to a professional stainless-steel mandoline, this device makes it possible to quickly, uniformly, and safely slice and julienne vegetables and fruits. It also shreds cabbage and neatly dices potatoes, tomatoes, and onions. For safety, a holder firmly grips food with stainless-steel prongs so fingers are protected from the German surgical-steel blades, and the three inserts accompanying the device lock in position. The inserts act as a guide for slicing against the V-frame's knife that reverses to create slices either 1/4-inch or 1/16-inch thick and two julienne inserts for creating 1/8-inch or 3/8-inch strips. For storage, the V-frame, all three inserts, and the safety holder fit into a caddy that can stand upright on the counter, lie flat in a drawer, or hang on the wall. Made of rugged plastic, the device measures 15 inches long and 6 inches wide when assembled for storage. --Fred Brack

5 out of 5 stars WORKS GREAT   January 6, 2009
I JUST BOUGHT THIS ONLY USED IT ONE TIME, BUT IT WORKED GREAT AND IF ALTON BROWN SAYS IT WILL DO THE JOB, YOU CAN BANK ON IT.

4 out of 5 stars Very usable.   January 3, 2009
We use it on a weekly basis for slicing potatoes. It does a nice job, quickly and is easy to clean, but sometimes you have to force it a little to get hard things, like potatoes, through the blade. It made lovely, paper-thin slices for an apple tart. But it's useless for french fries if you like anything bigger than matchsticks--which even the "thick" side makes. Also, as it lays flat, you constantly have to remove the sliced food. Otherwise, it's great, very usable.

4 out of 5 stars Swissmar slicer   December 25, 2008
I've wanted a slicer like this for years and finally got around to buying one. Many other reviews have listed all of the pros and cons of this product and there really isn't anything new I can add. It certainly slices quickly and easily. I can't give it 5 stars, however, for a couple of reasons. First, I have cut myself a couple of times. Yes, many people warned about how easy this is to do and yes, I was trying to be careful. But with so many blades it just takes a brief instant of not being careful enough. Second, it doesn't store easily in our cabinets and the vegetable holder part doesn't attach to the main base so it keeps getting lost. Other than that I'm very happy with the slicer.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful, almost too sharp!   December 14, 2008

This awesome little gagdet has made chopping-intensive dishes a breeze. Blades are incredibly sharp. Cleans up with a quick rinse. I have accidentally given myself a couple little cuts - this was so sharp I did not even realize or feel the cut for several seconds. It is simple common sense that you need to be super careful when using this (or any sharp kitchen tool). Nonetheless, I don't like using the guard, esp for softer vegetables like tomatoes. The guard ends up smashing the tomatoes, or the tomato slides off the pins on the guard. I ended up buying a kevlar safety glove to wear while using this, and it has worked wonderfully!

1 out of 5 stars Cheap construction and dangerous.   December 8, 2008

I cannot recommend this because quite frankly it's dangerous and I surprised Amazon risk selling it. It feels cheap and while opening it one of the razor sharp blade sets dropped out of the weak plastic case and just missed my foot. A knife can be dangerous but at least its clear where the sharp end is. This is just a cheap plastic case with jagged blades everywhere. We returned it immediately.
